Episode 5: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41413/5
                  http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41413/11

Recap:

(The episode opens up with a quick video recap of the previous events and then picks up from the point when the judges are deliberating on the actresses.)

Kang Hee states that if the scores are tied, then her selection is…and then she rips up her score sheet for dramatic effect. (gotta love the prima donna! She definitely knows how to wield her power.)

As they wait, Bok Ja and Eun Bi discuss the situation with Bae Kang Hee and Hong Jae Lee, and Eun Bi tries to down play the situation. During their talk, they find out that a decision’s been reached as to who will get to double cast with Kang Hee. Yoo Jin comes out to the theater and congratulates Eun Bi on her selection, much to Eun Bi's surprise since she was impressed by her competitor's musical skill.

Meanwhile, the "runner up"/contender packs up and leaves but is waylaid by Kang Hee and a gift of a cup of coffee. As they talk, we find out that Kang Hee and she started in the business around the same time. The actress admits that although she may have sung the auction piece more skillfully, she admits that Eun Bi represented the role of Do Ah more accurately. She then tells Kang Hee that Eun Bi reminds her of Kang Hee when she first started out in the business. At the time, she had wondered how such a girl like Kang Hee, who couldn’t sing well, would ever make it in the business. Now, look how far Kang Hee's come and where she is, still auditioning for parts. They share a laugh over memories.

At the director's bar, the theater company celebrate Eun Bi’s selection.

Seated in front of the TV at Yoo Jin’s house, Jin and his fiancĂ© discuss the audition interviews. Ra Kyung comments, much to Jin’s surprise and dismay, that Eun Bi’s interview was quite memorable. While others talked about how exciting it might be to be part of the musical or other such comments, Eun Bi spoke solely of the role, expounding upon her thoughts of the character.

Walking back home from the celebration, Jae Hee dotingly tells Eun Bi that no matter how much he looks at her, he doesn’t seem to ever get bored. Eun Bi accuses Jae Hee of seeing her as some toy or hamster. Jae Hee clarifies and says not so much a hamster but perhaps a Maltese or a Chihuahua. (LOL) He then praises her for her performance on stage.

The next morning, Eun Bi goes on her usual milk delivery, making sure to write her daily personal note to Kang Hee and bowing in respect before heading to her next delivery stop on her bike. Sang Won brings in the milk and exclaims that whoever delivers the milk shows dedication. Kang Hee agrees and then feeds the milk to her cat. (How sad…Eun Bi probably thinks the milk is for Kang Hee) Sang Won then tells Kang Hee that he’s headed off to a workshop with the musical crew and is surprised when Kang Hee says that she’s going to be joining them, too, but will make separate travel arrangements.

On the bus ride down to the workshop, Bok Ja speculates as to Kang Hee’s reason for joining them. She explains how top stars like Kang Hee usually only show up after everything’s been set up instead of labor with the crew in the beginning stages.

Yoo Jin couple and Kang Hee couple ride down separately in a sedan and discuss how Kang Hee doesn’t usually attend these workshops. Kang Hee defends herself and says that she’s attended hundreds of these in the past.

Once at the hotel, the location of their workshop, a production member (someone who later displays interest in Ra Kyung) assigns everyone to their rooms. Jae Hee pays particular attention to Eun Bi’s room number. (OMG, this man is incorrigible! He's probably going to visit her regularly.)

Jae Hee tries to visit Eun Bi’s room with coffee (Yup, didn't take him long. LOL) but is rudely surprised when Kang Hee answers the door. Apparently, she came by to give Eun Bi some pointers and invites Jae Hee into the room, stating that she was craving coffee and hopefully he won’t mind if she has some of Eun Bi's.

Seated around the tea table while they drink their coffees, Kang Hee comments on how Jae Hee makes really good coffee. When Eun Bi admits that she’s not really a connoisseur of coffee, Kang Hee tells her that’s a good thing and cautions her to not start anything that might become an addiction like coffee, alcohol, or tobacco. Those things can be disastrous to a female musical actress. Bok Ja adds that men can also be disastrous, but Kang Hee corrects her and pointedly says that love is actually helpful to an actress. She then asks Eun Bi to join her for some singing practice. Eun Bi is thrilled to be getting a private session with her idol/role model and jumps at the chance. As they leave—much to Jae Hee’s dismay again—Bok Ja laughs out loud and tells hims an analogy of who gets hurt when there are two sparring sides…the one in the middle, leaving the moderator to laugh out like as she’s doing now. (LOL Bok Ja's enjoying this way too much. LOL)

The musical company all meet in the auditorium for rehearsals with Jae Hee directing the vocal warm-ups. Kang Hee jumps in and partners with Eun Bi and coaches her. As the others look on, some begin to feel as though Kang Hee’s mean reputation is a misunderstanding when she’s so kind and considerate to Eun Bi. Bok Ja wonders if that’s really the case. She then points out how the husband (Sang Won) doesn’t seem so thrilled by Kang Hee’s actions. Seated in the auditorium viewing the scene unfold, Yoo Jin comments to Sang Won that it looks like they won’t have any conflicts with the cast and that Bae Kang Hee is truly a professional. Sang Won repeats with deeper meaning that she’s indeed a professional. (Dang, what an interesting relationship…to love a woman knowing all her undesirable traits as he does)

That night, the cast feast on BBQ and Kang Hee feeds Eun Bi and continues to shower concern her way. Jae Hee looks on in unease, wondering what Kang Hee’s up to.

Back at rehearsals, Eun Bi sings the female lead’s theme song as the rest of the cast listens enraptured by the performance. Jae Hee looks satisfied by her performance as it accurately portrays his image of Do Ah. However, Kang Hee speaks up and suggests that the opening can be sung a bit differently as well. Giving Jae Hee a knowing look, she then proceeds to sing the song a bit more forcefully, and the entire cast burst into applause. Jae Hee tries to stem Eun Bi’s willingness to follow Kang Hee’s interpretation by asking her about her own interpretation, which he prefers. However, Eun Bi, awestruck to be even in Kang Hee’s presence much less be sharing the same role with her and receiving instruction from her, quickly says that she likes Kang Hee’s interpretation better. (Foiled, Jae Hee! You have to be more direct with Eun Bi if you expect to penetrate through that idol worship of hers.)

Later that night as Eun Bi is asleep, Jae Hee texts her and berates her for listening so well to Kang Hee’s interpretation. Irritated, she texts back, “what’s wrong with listening to her advice?” Jae Hee then asks her to meet him outside. Grudgingly, she agrees and meets him outside the hallway where they both eventually crack a smile and head outside.

Once outside seated on a bench (love the view of the stairs), he plunks out a few notes on his cell phone app/program and scolds her for throwing away her interpretation so quickly. Eun Bi grabs his cell phone and plunks out a few notes herself and sings, “That’s not the case. Please go easy on me.” She then tells him how she saw Bae Kang Hee perform for the first day when she started medical school. Since that time, she’s always been moved by Kang Hee’s performances. And this great star, whom she’s idolized all this time, is helping her. She would have been content all her life simply to share a piece of the stage with her as a silent extra. But here she is double casted in the same role with her idol! Bae Kang Hee is synonymous with the word musical to her. Jae Hee, understanding Kang Hee’s huge presence in Eun Bi's mind, takes hold of Eun Bi’s hand and gingerly tries to explain that Kang Hee and Eun Bi are different. When Eun Bi agrees that she knows they are different, Jae Hee loses his temper with her and shouts that that’s not what he means. She thinks that she can’t compete with Kang Hee while he wants to tell her that she’s beyond Kang Hee. (Poor man can’t seem to convey his thoughts to Eun Bi properly. *sigh*) Startled by his outburst, Eun Bi disengages her hands from his and bids him good night. She then runs up the stairs back to the hotel to sleep. Jae Hee follows her back, deep in thought. Unobserved, Yoo Jin sees Eun Bi run back, Jae Hee slowly following, and Kang Hee watching them from her balcony above. Jae Hee spots Kang Hee taking in the scene as well; they make eye contact and then Kang Hee pointedly leaves the balcony and steps back into her room. Seeing this entire scene unfold and suspecting what this might portend, Yoo Jin then heads inside, not in the best of moods. (What a headache for him! He’s probably thinking that if they’re not careful, his multimillion dollar musical investment can go up in flames. One thing’s for sure: he’s intrigued by Eun Bi as evidenced by his putting down his phone unconsciously when he spots her….loving his reluctant attraction to her...heh heh)

The next morning, the entire cast jog around the hotel grounds like an army platoon. Meanwhile, the producers and director look over the contracts and finalize logistics to a 2.5 hours show and a 5.5 million dollar budget. Completely shocked by the scale of the production, the director swears to make this musical a success.

Meanwhile, Yoo Jin’s cousin and the shady producer meet over an expensive lunch to scheme about how to replace Yoo Jin as the musical fund manager. (With Yoo Jin on the seat, the producer can’t keep siphoning money from the fund and Yoo Jae can’t mismanage either)

The cast listen to Jae Hee’s score. As they clap and gasp at his genius, he tells them that this is just a sampling made quickly as a MIDI and that there will be a live orchestra accompanying them during the performances. The cast ooh and ahhh. As Jae Hee is about to walk out of the auditorium, Yoo Jin stops him and asks what he’s willing to stake for the sake of the musical’s success. Jae Hee asks for clarifies, and Yoo Jin specifies how so many people have put so many things on the line for this musical and expresses a wish that Jae Hee would take the musical more seriously rather than simply putting on a performance for the benefit of one person...meaning Eun Bi.

Ra Kyung interviews Kang Hee and concludes that Kang Hee’s last comment about how even the biggest stars are ultimately still at the whims of the directors and producers for a chance to bring their beloved characteres to life was particularly notable and poignant. Eun Bi agrees. Then when Ra Kyung suggests filming Eun Bi’s interview there as well, Kang Hee advises that Eun Bi be always filmed and interviewed in a prepared state; she explains that interviewers will typically write about things that were said “off the record” when the actors’ defenses/interview persona is gone and they speak freely. That’s how the news of her marriage got leaked out. Eun Bi takes in every bit of advice as pearls of wisdom.

Downstairs in one of the open lobbies, the cast and production staff prepare and fine-tune the storyline when Eun Bi walks in dressed in a skin-tight black miniskirt with make-up. Everyone hoots and hollers in appreciation of her transformation, the director claiming that she’s become Do Ah, the character. However, Jae Hee simply looks on, not pleased by what’s happening before his eyes.

Surrounded by the cast who express their surprise and appreciation of how different she looks with make-up, Eun Bi sits down for her interview and explains that Kang Hee told her to always get interviewed in a prepared state and that Kang Hee even directly applied the make-up for her. Ra Kyung adds that Kang Hee suggested this place as an interview spot. The director exclaims that Kang Hee is wonderful to be taking care of her junior so well like this. Meanwhile, Jae Hee takes in the scene from downstairs with growing concern.

He seeks out Kang Hee privately and asks her what her motives are for helping Eun Bi so much. She explains that she wants to take over Jae Hee’s role as teacher and in the process of spending time together, Eun Bi will gradually come to know how much Kang Hee cares for Jae Hee. As Jae Hee concurs that this will then in effect shorten his time with Eun Bi, Kang Hee sharply asks if he’s set this musical up merely to spend time the girl rather than to help her grow as a musical actress. When Jae Hee remains silent, Kang Hee emphatically declares that she will act the role and help make Eun Bi a star.

Meanwhile downstairs, Ra Kyung continues in her interview with Eun Bi, and Eun Bi explains how her grandmother was responsible for helping her not only enter medical school but give her the strength and courage to try to live out her dreams as a musical actress. With tears welling in her eyes, Eun Bi says that it was through her grandmother’s encouragement that she’s been able to get this far. As Eun Bi tells her poignant story, Yoo Jin comes upon the interview and views the scene cynically. While Ra Kyung is moved by Eun Bi’s tale, he isn’t and emotionlessly asks Ra Kyung if she’d like coffee and leaves to wait for her as she cleans up after the interview. Eun Bi chases after him to ask if he doesn’t like her. Yoo Jin masterfully twists words around so that Eun Bi leaves thinking that she’s imagined his dislike of her; after all, does he appear to be the type of person to like or dislike a person when doing business. Ra Kyung overhears part of their conversation and realizes that Yoo Jin has shown a part of himself to Eun Bi that he’s never shown to anyone else.

Once inside his hotel room, Yoo Jin loses himself in thought while Ra Kyung makes coffee. She mentions that Eun Bi is very much like his father, and that’s probably why he gets so angry with her and shows a side of himself that he usually keeps under control, even from her. Yoo Jin tells her she’s imagining things and draws the conversation to a close.

Outside, the cast engage in another group-bonding activity by jumping on a trampoline. Yoo Jin watches as Eun Bi jumps, reflecting on a childhood memory of his father, who took him waterskiing. Ra Kyung brings him coffee and asks what he was thinking because she’d been calling him for a while.

At the company headquarters, Yoo Jin’s grandfather and uncle take part in a executive meeting. At the uncle’s unwise suggestion that the company expand into China based solely on a "trusted" relationship with a contact in China, the grandfather embarrasses his son in front of the others, citing the folly of venturing into such a huge business expansion based on the trust of one person. The meeting concludes with the uncle being rebuked for not knowing and acting like a CEO who doesn’t know when to curtail his employee’s unwise suggestion and is instead blinded by his devotion to his incompetent son.

Later that night at the workshop, the cast continue to play and build group camaraderie. The game is simple but actually reflects the inner relationships among the group. As Kang Hee volunteers to be “it,” the producers and director get a bit uneasy as Kang Hee has a difficult time breaking her way into the circle, indicating that she’s an "outside," especially to Jae Hee who firmly blocks her entrance into the circle. Luckily, as Sang Won’s concern grows, Eun Bi weakens and lets her idol into the circle. However, when it’s Eun Bi’s turn, Kang Hee firmly stands her ground and keeps Eun Bi out, symbolic of her determination to alienate Eun Bi. Luckily before the intention is noticed by anyone else, Eun Bi breaks through via Bok Ja. As more hilarity and group bonding continue, Ra Kyung, who was filming the group, gets pushed and stumbles into the fire. The game master yells and runs to help her first while Yoo Jin stands up from his chair, momentarily frozen. The episode ends on Yoo Jin's frozen form.

(Enjoy!)

Musings on Protect the Boss

With the airing of the last episode of Protect the Boss, bringing the much-beloved series to an end, I found myself laughing, sighing over its continued cuteness, and appreciating the character developments all the way to the end. *Sigh* The way the drama lightly poked fun at the usual conventions of Korean drama motifs and plot developments signified for me a masterful hand at storytelling. In short, I LOVED it!  I treasured all the humor and poignant moments in the series.
But more than anything else, the series really shined when it developed its many relationship stories: father-son, grandmother-father, cousin-cousin, friend-friend, sister-in-law and brother-in-law rivalry, etc. Yes, the relationship between Noh Eun Seol and Cha Ji Heon was adorable and hilarious; for that matter, so was the Cha Mu Won and Yoon Na Hee story. However, the side stories of friendship and cousinship are what had me returning episode after episode to once again immerse myself in the world of Protect the Boss. To be able to see on screen the slow but definite transformations of each of the characters and also of their troubled relationships was sheer pleasure.

As great as the storytelling may have been, though, the subtle and oftentimes not-so-subtle acting of the characters Cha Ji Heon (Ji Sung) and Cha Bong Man really stood out for me. Without those two experienced actors, the story wouldn't have been as compelling. For instance, when Ji Heon has a serious conversation with his father outside their yard about Noh Eun Seol and the dad fakes chest pains, I laughed out loud as Ji Heon hovered over his father in apparent concern, only to upturn the viewers' expectations by gently taking his father's hand away from the chest and chiding him not to fake chest pains. LOL. Superb comedic timing! The rich actings of those two, who can deftly do both drama and comedy, had me swinging among multiple ranges of emotions.

I've never seen a Ji Sung drama, mainly because he's been in mostly serious dramas, which I tend to avoid like the plague. However, the man knows how to do comedy! But it's not just straight-up comedy. He does it with a nuanced touch of drama that subtlely points to the human state. For instance, how many of you loved how as Ji Heon and Eun Seol are strolling down that picturesque lane of trees at the end, he's holding the umbrella more to her side to show his concern that she doesn't get wet in the rain? Ack! L-O-V-E-D little moments like that, many of which simply pass by as part of his ever-attentive care for his love.

*sigh*

So many things I could put down in words to chronicle my journey through this precious drama, but I'll conclude simply with these words: Thank you, Protect the Boss, for a wonderfully memorable few months of laughter, reflection, and sheer, unadulteration enjoyment in dramaland. You're the prototype of why I keep coming back for more Korean dramas. I shall miss you!

Musings for the Day...

I just got done recapping A Thousand Kisses Episode 12, and I must say, I'm liking the pace of the drama. The slow yet steady development of Woo Jin and Joo Mi's relationship is a joy to watch, especially as they start to bring out certain romantic and playful aspects of each other's personalities. For instance, Joo Mi's never made a doshirak for a man before and Woo Jin...well, let's just say that he's doing everything remotely associated with romance for the first time. And he's SMILING! LAUGHING!~

I know many of you, including myself, weren't that hooked on the Woo Bin/Joo Young couple storyline, but I've got to hand it to Ji Hyun Woo. He's doing a solid job of making Woo Bin appear likeable as he pursues Joo Young. As for the constant cold shoulder Joo Young's giving Woo Bin now that his feelings are known, I appreciate how she's realistic about their circumstances, thereby grounding their storyline. I didn't include this in the Episode 12 recap, but during the conversation at the park, she asks Woo Bin what his reaction would have been had she been the first one to confess. She astutely surmises that he would have run away from her as fast as he could. Needless to say, I'm curious to see how this relationship progresses, especially once Woo Bin's mother (the status-conscious woman who loathes anything and everything to do with Woo Jin's stepmother) finds out about her son loving a divorced single mother who also happens to be the older daughter of Woo Jin's stepmother.) Who knows when she'll find out, but this being dramaland, we know she'll eventually find out. The only question is how and who's going to be the one to spill the beans and open the proverbial Pandora's Box.

So much more I could post, but I'll stop here. On a side note, I plan to post links to Protoect the Boss (last two episodes this week) and keep updating my High Kick 3 episodes link post, so for those of you looking to watch the episodes, you'll know where to look. :) As for The Musical although recapping can be a bit time-consuming at times, I'm having so much fun providing you all with recaps that I've decided to recap my beloved The Musical. :) So keep up the hard work, staff of The Musical! Despite the low ratings, you have legions of fans enjoying your work! :)

All right...enough silliness for now. Have a blessed day! I hope you all get to enjoy at least one simple yet wonderful aspect of this life today! I know I'm going to try to appreciate the meaningful conversations I have with my students today. :) Until next time....

A Thousand Kisses Episode 12 Recap and Link

Episode 12: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41274/5
Recap: (note: to avoid confusion, I call Joo Young and Joo Mi's biological mom "Woo Jin's mother" and I just realized that Yoon Hee is actually Joon Hee...I miswrote her name in the previous recap...sorry.)

The episode opens with Woo Jin’s mother calling the grandmother and asking her for a meeting to discuss Joo Mi’s situation. Meanwhile, Joo Mi and Woo Jin visit the traditional Korean restaurant to plan Saturday's dinner. Joo Mi's surprised by the price ($350/person) but Woo Jin calmly tells her that they need to first try the meal to see if it's tasty. Joo Mi replies that at that price, she knows it's going to be tasty. (LOL) She tells him that she's afraid her lips will bloat because the meal is so expensive. He reassures her that her lips won't. (LOL so cute how he's starting to joke with her.)

Grandmother and mother meet, and the grandmother assumes that the mother doesn’t want the wedding to happen either. She’s surprised then when the mother asks her for permission for the wedding to happen. Although her husband knows about her past, since Joo Mi thinks of her as dead, she asks the grandmother to please give her permission to the wedding; nothing can be gained from objecting but giving the couple heartache. The grandmother refuses, saying that a mother cannot be a mother-in-law. With tears welling in her eyes, the mother begs that since she’s already dead to her girls for abandoning them, she doesn’t want to add to that sin by becoming a mother who's blocked her daughter’s marriage and chance at happiness. She then explains that since Woo Jin lost his mother at such a young age, she’s rarely seen him smile. Joo Mi’s changed all that, and she doesn’t want to take that away from him. The grandmother refuses to budge in her objection to this marriage and tells the mother that she’s going to object, citing the extreme differences in their family background as a reason.

Leaving the meeting with her ex-daughter-in-law, the grandmother visits her son’s grave and tells him that she can’t allow this marriage to happen after what his ex-wife’s done: break up the family when she had an affair with one of his students.

Woo Jin's mother walks back and recalls the conversation and the past. The grandmother had told her to leave the house and never look back after what she did to the family; never contact them!

Joo Young and Chan Ho shop, and Joo Young buys Chan Ho a skateboard (rip board?) because he begs her for one (ah, children and their begging...). As she watches him learn to skate, she receives a phone call from Woo Bin, which she promptly ignores. He then sends her a text message telling her to answer his call. She ignores that one, too. He sends another one telling her that she won’t be able to avoid him. (good thing he's a good guy, or I'd be screaming, "Stalker!" right about now.)

At Tae Kyung’s house, Joon Hee brings in a wedding dress and tells the mother that she and Tae Kyung will be getting married. The mother promptly gets upset, wondering if her son is that reckless and a cad.

Joo Mi comes home and excitedly tells her two grandmothers about the restaurant for Saturday’s dinner meeting.

Meanwhile, Woo Jin’s mother returns home to an angry husband, who’s upset that his wife came home so late without any word; she didn't even bother to call. Startled, she tells him that she lost track of time while looking at wedding gifts and meeting with a friend. (She looks so anxious...sigh...what a sad life she leads) Soo Ah comes down and plays mediator between her parents and mentions that she didn’t know her mother had any friends (how sad…the mother doesn’t have any friends...wonder if she lost them all when she had the affair and then as penance just never made any new ones). The mother goes into the kitchen to prepare dinner since her husband had refused to eat earlier without his wife.

Tae Kyung comes home for the evening and is surprised to see a wedding dress hanging in his room. He reminds Joon Hee that he’s still not officially divorced and even then, he refuses to marry her. Joon Hee says they will. When he stalks out of his bedroom, she mutters, "We'll see..." (scary woman...what can she possible be planning...anyone else thinks she's lying about the baby and trying to trap Tae Kyung in a speedy marriage before she's found out?)

Woo Bin texts Joo Young good night, a text message that she ignores once again. (Got to hand it to the guy, though...he's persistent)

The next morning, Joo Mi prepares a lunch for Woo Jin. She asks her grandmother to taste test the rice ball and give her some points, but the grandmother refuses. Joo Mi, oblivious to her grandmother’s mood, then brightly says that she will prepare the meal without any help so that she can claim she made it all by herself. She then tells the grandmother that she would have been in despair if Woo Jin’s father had objected to the marriage. She’s so happy right now. She hopes nothing takes her happiness away. At Joo Mi's words, the grandmother worries, knowing that she's going to have to take her granddaughter's happiness away soon.

Hye Bin calls a matchmaking company and then tells her mother that she’s decided to get married and get out of her mother’s hair. She just needs the money now. (LOL. I really don't know what to think about this irresponsible older sister...oh wait, I just did. LOL I-R-R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-L-E. I wonder who the writers are going to use as her love match...Woo Bin's older assoicate?)

At the shoe company, the staff gather around to judge the submissions.

On the grounds of KJResort, Woo Jin is seen jogging toward Joo Mi in his suit. He is pleasantly surprised with a homemade (doshirak) lunch from her. Looking at her skeptically (love how he’s learning to tease her), he asks if she didn’t buy this from the store. She insists that she made it. With a bit of an anticipatory look, he opens the case. Fishing for a compliment, Joo Mi asks, “Doesn’t it look pretty?” He replies, “What’s important is the taste.” As he tastes, Joo Mi concludes by his look that it’s tasty. When he asks if she really made it all by herself and without any help from grandmother, she utters a shocked "It must be that good." He tells her to eat, too, or he’ll eat it all himself. She tells him that’s all right; she can make more when she gets home. He then gently places her chopsticks in her hands, and they share a tender look. Joo Mi savors the moment (so cute how she holds onto her chopsticks) and doesn’t eat. Woo Jin, seeing this, feeds her a riceball. (Looks like Joo Mi’s dreams of romance are slowing becoming a reality with the “Ice” man. LOL) They then talk a bit more about possibly living by themselves once they marry and then Joo Mi feeds Woo Jin a riceball to which he’s pleased. (a first for both of them...)

Joo Mi returns home happy from her date but quickly panics when her grandmother tells her that the grandmother can’t accept this marriage on the pretext that their family backgrounds are too different. Joo Mi asks her grandmother to explain a bit more clearly so that she can understand. Woo Jin’s family isn’t one to care about a wedding dowry. The aunt-grandmother doesn’t know what’s going on and Joo Mi desperately tries to find a solution, suggesting that if Woo Jin’s parents are all right with her bringing no dowry, then it will be all right. The grandmother insists on objecting and Joo Mi goes into her room to cry.

Joo Young walks home from the grocery store to find Chan Ho and Woo Bin playing soccer at the local playground. (He’s a man, all right. LOL. When the woman ignores him, he goes to her.) Sending Chan Ho home so that she can speak with Woo Bin alone, she tells him to please leave her alone and not come by anymore. Woo Bin asks, “Do you really not like me? Don’t you know I’m a pretty good catch?” (heh heh) He then tells her that he’ll keep coming. (Persistence, baby! that's how my friend's husband got my friend to marry her, too!) At his stubbornness, she lists all the reasons why she doesn’t understand his interest, specifically leaving out her motherhood and divorced status since he claims those don't matter: she’s short, not that pretty, not smart, etc. He agrees, which deflates her a bit. (LOL) Then taking her grocery bag, he runs to her house and gives the bag to her grandmother. He then drives Joo Young somewhere, telling her that he's forcing her to spend time with him; otherwise, she won’t give him the time of day. He then takes her to a dance club and leads her onto the dance floor. He meets a friend there, and when the friend asks about Joo Young, he simply replies that he’s in the process of wooing. (LOL). When the music changes to a ballad, Joo Young leaves him on the dance floor. Instead of accepting the rejection, Woo Bin sees the chance for an unprepared event. He gets on the microphone and confesses to the clubbers that he apologizes for the interruption but that he’s grabbing this chance, an unplanned event, to try to convince the woman he loves that he loves her. She doesn’t seem to believe him. Announcing to her over the microphone that he thinks he’s become addicted to her, Woo Bin starts to sing and play his guitar.

Driving her home later that night, he asks if he sang well. At her silence, he wonders aloud what he should do next if she doesn’t like his singing. Joo Young says that she knows he’s a great guy, but she can’t go to him and that she won’t change her mind. Woo Bin retorts that he won’t change his mind either. He’s decided not to calculate and rationalize. He knows all her shortcomings but still likes her, so he’s decided to stop trying to make sense of his feelings.

Joo Young returns home to a crying Joo Mi. She comforts her and tells her to not cry when nothing’s been finalized. The grandmother will relent once she hears from the elders on Woo Jin’s side.

The next day, Joo Mi meets Woo Jin and tells him the situation with the grandmother. He tells her not to worry and that he’ll explain everything, especially since his father had told him to relay the message that they don’t need to prepare a dowry. (Isn't it adorable how Woo Jin doesn't like her crying?)

Meeting the grandmother, Woo Jin explains the situation. The grandmother still refuses, saying that that’s Woo Jin's side. She still doesn’t want them to marry, but if they are determined, perhaps they should take some more time to get to know each other better.

Outside Joo Mi's house, as Woo Jin gets ready to leave, he asks Joo Mi if her grandmother will really insist on objecting to this marriage to the very end. He’s confused since his family’s not that rich. He wonders if the grandmother would cease her objections if his father resigned from his chairman position, which is unrealistic. At his ridiculous mutterings, Joo Mi tells him to go home. A bit put out, he asks her if she wants him to leave so early. Surprised by his questions, she bashfully looks at him and says no. At her reply, he smiles. (Ha! Their romance is so sweet.)

Back home, Woo Jin explains the situation to his parents, but his father suspects that there is another reason other than their family background. (smart man. There's a reason why he's the chairman.) However, he agrees to postpone the marriage meeting.

As Woo Jin’s mother’s about to sleep, she gets a call from the grandmother to meet the next day. At the meeting, the grandmother tells her that she can’t allow this wedding to happen, so the mother needs to do her part and reveal all. This way, Joo Mi and Woo Jin will finally accept her objections. No biological mother can be a mother-in-law. The mother begs her to allow this marriage since she’s a dead person to her girls. The grandmother demands how she can think of the mother as dead, refusing to forget what she’s done to her son, a woman who drove a stake through his heart. The mother begs, saying that she was only Joo Young’s age when she made that mistake. She was young and reckless, not knowing what was really important. She’s lived the past 20 years or so regretting. The grandmother leaves, reiterating that she can never accept this marriage.

Back at home, Joo Young tries to convince her grandmother not to object to Woo Jin; she thinks he’s a good guy and that she hopes her failed marriage doesn’t affect the grandmother’s stance regarding Joo Mi’s wedding. As they talk, Tae Kyung unexpectedly comes to visit with a wedding preparation gift for the grandmother. When Joo Young asked how he heard, he mentions that the aunt-grandmother came up. Not wanting to spend any more time with him than necessary, Joo Young shows him to the door.

The two grandmothers and Joo Young fix some side dishes in the kitchen when Joo Young gets a phone call from the shoe company telling her that she’s won the grand prize. The family celebrates.

At around the same time, Woo Bin is at his office, pouring over the results to the shoe contest. Abruptly getting out of his seat, he lifts his hands up in the air and announce “Grand prize! Grand prize!” (So cute! I know I love Woo Jin and Joo Mi couple, but Woo Bin’s slowly starting to worm his way into my heart with his cuteness towards Joo Young) Surprise, his employees ask what’s the grand prize. However without answering, Woo Bin tells his associate to take care of the afternoon schedules and leaves for the day.

After confirming that she’s the winner of the grand prize, Joo Young sits down for the awards ceremony. Meanwhile, Woo Bin grabs a bouquet of flowers and drives to the ceremony. Running into the building, (gotta love the way he takes the stairs 3 or 4 steps at a time…dang! The man has long legs!) he congratulates Joo Young with flowers and a bear hug, saying softly in her ears that he shouldn’t lose an opportunity. (LOL) Yoo Kyung, thinking that he’s there with flowers for her, is rudely surprised when Woo Bin congratulates, hugs, and drags Joo Young out. She’s so surprised and baffled that she follows them all the way to the elevator. (Is it just me, or is her character that unbelievable?)

Outside, Woo Bin ushers a reluctant Joo Young into his car while Tae Kyung, arriving late to congratulate his ex-wife with flowers, sees them leave in Woo Bin’s car. The episode ends with a frozen shot of his shocked face.

A Thousand Kisses Episode 11 Recap and Link

Episode 11: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41237/5

Recap:
As Joo Young slowly and a bit unsteadily walks back into the emergency room, Woo Bin runs and envelops her in a bear hug. He thanks her for being alive and that he must have imagined the worst case scenario. Rebuking her lightly for how scared he was when their phone call was abruptly interrupted on a scream, he asks what happened. She briefly explains that a motorcyclist side-swiped her and that she’s all right. He then urges her to get some sleep and leaves when she says that she can’t while he’s there. (He’s so adorable how he’s so distracted yet willing to do anything she asks.)

Joo Mi leaves to go visit Woo Jin’s house to visit with his parents and answer some questions they have for her. Meanwhile, the grandmother opens a cardboard box and worriedly looks over her savings accounts to see if she’ll have enough to help pay for Joo Mi’s wedding.

Outside the hospital, Woo Bin answers a call from his employee and then apologizes for not calling him to explain that things with Joo Young are all right. When the older brother comments that from Woo Bin's reaction, he thought that she had gotten into a major accident. Woo Bin gets all huffy-puffy that the co-worker seems disappointed that she’s all right. (Gotta love his state of emotions right now. LOL)

Joo Mi meets with Woo Jin and his parents at their home and answers some questions about her parents. As she talks about her father who used to work as a professor at a university, Woo Jin’s mother looks startled and silently tells herself that what she suspects can’t be true since Joo Mi has a different name than her daughter. But she’s left reeling when Joo Mi talks about how her parents divorced when she was 3 and that she doesn’t know her mother’s face since her grandmother got rid of all the pictures (only the grandmother knows about the one remaining photo had the father had kept tucked inside one of his old books, perhaps an indication that he still cared for his ex-wife and wished he had forgiven her so many years ago.)

While doing dishes, Woo Jin’s mother asks Joo Mi about her sister. Joo Mi tells her that her older sister’s name is Joo Young and that her name used to be Joo Ah but that her grandmother changed her name to Joo Mi at age 6 so that she can get stronger (since she was such a sickly child). The mother is shaken to know that her younger daughter had been sick and asks if she was sick a lot. Joo Mi says yes and that that even now, she has a slight case of anemia but is all right. When the mother presses her to get treatment for the anemia, no matter how minor the case (love the motherly concern still), Joo Mi explains that she’s all right. The mother then asks what her father’s name was. When Joo Mi mentions her father’s name in the honorific form, the mere mention of her ex-husband’s name causes the mom to collapse and break a teacup. As she struggles to pick up the broken pieces, she cuts herself and excuses herself to go get it bandaged. Once safely inside her bedroom, she tries to calm her tumultuous feelings.

Woo Jin comes into the kitchen and tells Joo Mi that his aunt and uncle will be joining them for dinner. When she expresses anxiety, he tells her it’s probably better to just get the meeting of elders over with; otherwise, they have to meet them anyhow at a separate time. The mother’s surprised at the sudden invite since she wasn’t prepared for dinner guests. (dang, how like a man to spring surprise dinner guests on his wife at the last moment).

Meanwhile, Woo Bin’s mom, while getting ready to go to Woo Jin’s house, speculates on what type of girl has changed Woo Jin’s determination to not marry. The dad simply smiles and says that when a man falls in love, it’s only natural that he wants to marry. (LOL) Then Woo Bin’s father sternly warns his wife not to make things awkward by sticking her nose in the wedding by asking about a dowry, family background, etc. She gets miffed that her husband won’t let her ask anything. He then tells her to try to forget what happened with Woo Jin’s stepmother so long ago. He mentions that even Jesus says to forgive and forget. He asks her to please forget the past.

Joo Young returns home to the family’s surprise at her wound. She minimizes the event and says that she got into an accident. (No mention of the motorcycle or hospital so that no one worries needlessly).

Hye Bin and Yoo Kyung visit a shoe boutique and Yoo Kyung buys her one of her company’s shoes. Over drinks at a local coffee shop, Hye Bin asks why Yoo Kyung called her for drinks that one time. Yoo Kyung finally confesses in vague terms that Woo Bin misunderstood things between her and her old boyfriend. (I so dislike how she leaves out how Woo Bin caught her making out with her old boyfriend…how is that a misunderstanding?!)

Woo Jin’s family (minus Soo Ah) and Woo Bin’s parents gather for dinner and share pleasantries over dinner. Woo Bin’s dad says that since he’s going to be her “small father-in-law” (Korean term for the father-in-law’s younger brother), he’ll just call her Joo Mi rather than the polite term to call strangers. (This shows how they're really quick to accept her into the family.) They talk of wedding plans and arrange to have the meeting between the two families that weekend much to the mother's increasing concern.

When Joo Mi returns home, she tells her family of the weekend’s meeting. They are surprised that things are getting so rushed but then laugh when the aunt-grandmother mentions that the bachelor Woo Jin must really want to marry Joo Mi quickly.

In the quiet of her bedroom while her husband sleeps, Woo Jin’s stepmother looks over her only picture of her two daughters and sheds silent tears as she reflects upon the day’s events and her feelings. When her husband calls from the bed, asking if she’s not sleeping, she wipes her tears, tucks away the photo in a case and then inside her vanity drawer before retiring for the night.

Seated outside on their porch, Joo Mi and Joo Young talk about the upcoming wedding and how Joo Young has such a hard time believing that her little sister is getting married. Joo Mi comments that she can’t either, and Joo Young tells her that she must make sure to be happy. She teases Joo Mi about her childhood nickname: leech. Because she stuck to her like a leech, Joo Young was often late to school. Joo Mi wonders why she bothered her small older sister when she had her grandmother. Talk then turns to their mother, whom they haven’t seen since their childhood. Joo Mi wonders where their mother is and why grandmother won’t let them talk about her or ask about her. She asks if Joo Young still hates her mother. Joo Young answers that when she became a mother, she understood that a mother can’t abandon her child. She then reassures her younger sister that she’ll act as her mother and help her with the wedding plans.

Woo Jin’s mother lies in bed deep in thought.

The next morning, Woo Jin and Woo Bin meet over coffee. Woo Bin wonders who this woman is to have changed his older cousin’s mind so drastically. Woo Jin comments that she makes him laugh and smile while he mentally reminisces about her efforts to make him laugh. Woo Bin asks to see her today, but Woo Jin says that he has to go down to the resort so they’ll have to reschedule for another day. Woo Bin then asks him for advice on love; what does it mean that he thinks rationally one minute and then emotionally the next? Woo Jin tells him that that seems like a difficult question for him, at which Woo Bin concurs and rhetorically asks what he thought he could possibly learn from his older cousin who just recently changed his own mind about love. (LOL…it's so cute how the drama is showing more of their cousin relationship)

As Woo Bin returns to his office, he can’t seem to get Joo Young off his mind. His older employee/manager asks what the deal is with Joo Young because when Joo Young first broke the celadon vase, he was embarrassed by how stingy Woo Bin had acted and then yesterday, Woo Bin was acting like a crazy man. Woo Bin tells him to give it a rest since the guy already chewed him out over the phone yesterday. Then just a few minutes later, Woo Bin catches himself smiling like a lunatic again with thoughts of Joo Young so excuses himself to go exercise…(LOL. he's only been in the office a few minutes! Talk about distracted!) His office staff is left in shock over his erratic behavior.

Joo Young, while dressing her head wound, thinks back on yesterday’s events as well. With a resolved expression, she tries to remind herself not to think such wayward thoughts.

Meanwhile, Woo Bin tries to physically work out his thoughts and emotions out on the racquetball court.

Joo Mi and Woo Jin drive down to the resort, Joo Mi asks brightly what she’s to do at the resort. He tells her to play until he gets off work. She asks if she’s only keeping him company then so that he won’t be bored on his drive to and from work, and Woo Jin says that’s only in part. Then he smoothly turns on his CD, which has a radio DJ narrating a listener’s radio note to the station. Joo Mi thinks it's actually a radio program. Listening to the story, Joo Mi comments that this sounds just like their story. (Love the look on Woo Jin’s face when the radio announcer reads that the listener wondered what kind of weird woman would run backwards right into a man…as if to say that’s you! LOL. I love how his playful side is starting to slowly emerge.) She then gets an inkling that this is something Woo Jin sent and listens with excitement and emotion. The radio DJ continues to read that the guy “doesn’t know much about love but feels as though this woman can teach him about love. She’s a magician who’s cast a spell over his heart. She’s gotten him to think seriously about marriage. Joo Mi, will you marry me, Jang Woo Jin?” Squealing, Joo Mi reaches over and hugs Woo Jin while he’s driving. (Ack! So cute! Woo Jin's surprised expression is priceless!~) She then asks how he was able to think of such an unexpected and romantic event. Woo Jin truthfully answers that he didn’t send a note to the radio station. (Drat the man for his honesty!) Ejecting the CD and handing it to her, he tells her that he contacted an events company because he knew that she liked romance and events. They planned this for him. Joo Mi announces that she’s been duped. However, she quickly rebounds and says that she’s still touched by his gesture and reaches over to give him a quick peck on the cheek. (Yes, the man is definitely liking spending time with her and receiving "skinship" LOL)

Back at Woo Jin's home, his stepmother is sick with worry as she anticipates the upcoming family meeting this Saturday. She knows that she has to do something to prevent a major disaster with her ex-mother-in-law.

Later that night, Joo Young meets Woo Bin outside her house and asks why he’s here out of the blue. Woo Bin asks her why she’s followed him all day long. (Really?!  Is he seriously using that old pick-up line? LOL I have to admit, though, that it sounds cute coming from him in that way) Without his permission, why is she running around freely in his head? He wants to hold/hug her. Startled, Joo Young asks him to not be like this. With tears welling up in her eyes, she reminds him that she’s Chan-Ho’s mom and an divorcee. Woo Bin demands what other reason she can give that he doesn’t know. Is the fact that she’s 3 years older than him an issue? He tells her to leave that out since he already knows that, too. He demands that she give him a reason he doesn't know. At his stubborness, She leaves and says she has nothing to say to a man who refuses to understand her.

Once inside the safety of her front yard, Joo Young leans against a wall trying to calm her racing heart. Woo Bin goes for a drink to deal with her stubborness and how he's going to convince her to date him.

The next morning, the aunt-grandmother goes to visit Tae Kyung’s mother and says that despite the situation with the kids, they’re still friends, so she came to visit. She then starts to brag about Joo Mi’s future husband and how he’s rich and better looking than even Jang Dong Gun (LOL…so she went to brag...and nah, Ryu Jin is more handsome!) While they talk, Yoon Hee comes in and claims that she’s the new daughter-in-law. When Tae Kyung’s mother denies it, Yoon Hee insists it's true since she’s bearing Tae Kyung’s child. The aunt-grandmother leaves in a huff, spitting on the floor to signify she's finished with the family. Yoon Hee then tells Tae Kyung's mother that despite their wish for Joo Young and Tae Kyung to reconcile, she is going to be the future daughter-in-law.

The aunt-grandmother goes home to vent about the unexpected development, leaving Joo Young with new thoughts to consider.

Yoon Hee visits Tae Kyung at his office and drags him out to see and select a wedding dress. Tae Kyung shouts that he’s not even officially divorced yet (they’re in the waiting period) and even if the divorce becomes official, he has no plans to ever remarry.

Joo Young does laundry out in her frontyard, and her grandmother comforts her to not be bothered by how many children he has. Joo Young tells her she's not bothered and then gets a phone from Woo Bin.

Meeting outside at their usual park bench, Woo Bin confesses that he doesn’t know why his emotions are like this or how they came to be like this, but he tells her to not avoid him since he’s going to be meeting her now as a man. (Appreciate that he's so direct and truthful with her) She tells him that she didn’t meet him as a man. She met him because he was a kind neighbor to her. Woo Bin tells her he’s not going to be meeting her that way anymore to which she replies that she won’t able to meet him then. Woo Bin asks her to give him a reason other than her being Chan-Ho’s mom or divorced. She get up to leave and tells him that she won’t have any reason to meet him in the future then. Frustrated, he can only watch as she walks swiftly from him.

While Joo Mi’s on her laptop working on an article, she receives a call from Woo Jin’s mother asking for a meeting. As they walk through a historical Korean site (love the painting on the hanok--traditional Korean--buildings), the mother asks Joo Mi questions about her family and whether her sister’s married. Joo Mi answers that her sister got married. The mother confirms and is sad that Joo Mi doesn’t have any memories of her mother. Sitting at a park bench later, the mother asks Joo Mi for her home phone number since she’ll have to contact Joo Mi's grandmother for the Saturday meeting and wedding plans. (So sad how the mother was barred from ever contacting her children and the phone number was changed to prevent any contact. And she has to use subterfuge on her daughter to contact the ex-mother-in-law) The mother then asks permission to touch Joo Mi’s hand (kill me softly…how heart-wrenching that the mother so gingerly yet oh-so-tenderly treasures her daughter’s hand. She's been through a lot over the past 23 years...how tragic that one event can so drastically alter a person's life...lesson learned!) Commenting on how beautiful Joo Mi’s hands are, the mother asks if Joo Mi “really likes, no loves, Woo Jin.” She reassures Joo Mi that she asks this without any hidden motives. She’s just concerned that things are happening so quickly; Joo Mi had acted as Woo Jin's fake girlfriend and now is making plans to marry him. Does she love him enough to weather any storms that may test her feelings for him? Joo Mi reassures her that her feelings won’t change even though she doesn’t know what the future holds for them. (I love how the mother is trying in her own way to confirm if her daughter is really happy and marrying for the right reasons.)

Driving Joo Mi back to the house, the mother takes in all the details of the small road leading up to Joo Mi’s house. When she returns home, she’s startled to find her husband home from work, indicating her frail state of mind right now. He tells her that reservations have been make to meet this Saturday at a well-known traditional Korean restaurant. Inside her bedroom, she debates whether to call and then makes the dreaded phone call to her ex-mother-in-law. When the mother-in-law tries to hang up, she urgently asks her not hang up; she’s calling about Joo Mi!

The Musical Episode 4 Link and Thoughts

Link to Episode 4: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41176/5

I want to encourage those who are looking  for a drama to check out The Musical, starring Goo Hye Sun, Daniel Choi, and Ok Ju Hyun. It airs only once a week, so it should be easy on anyone's viewing schedule. :)

Today's episode (episode 4) contained a number of cute scenes, all of which I won't recount right now, but a few that stood out in my mind are the Hong Jae Hee and Ko Eun Bi scenes:
1. At the playground where Eun Bi exclaims that Hong Jae Hee's actions are why artists gain a bad reputation (LOL)
2. His earnest efforts to protect and give her the spotlight in his musical and her subsequent actions to avoid favoritism and instead earn the part on her own merits with an open-audition
3. Her audition. I loved how Hong Jae Hee curls up in his seat as if to savor the performance...love the way he swings his knees to accent his enjoyment of the performance (LOL). The dramatic pause (Eun Bi's interpreation) is inspired and really changes the energy of the drama as well as the audition scene. Every single judge is startled and then amazed at how she's brought life and realism to the song with that one dramatic pause. The judges who hadn't recognized her potential before then start to get an inkling of why Hong Jae Hee is pushing for her to lead. She's definitely starting to show the beginnings of her star power as a future musical actress. Not only is she maximizing on the fact that the piece was written with her in mind, she's adding her own artist interpretation to the musical in order to make the performance that much more believable...and she's trying so hard to get to her rightful place in the musical world on her own merits, not on someone's shirttails...LIKE!
4. Hong Jae Hee's quietly uttered "Bravo, Ko Eun Bi" packs a whole lot of meaning. (So adorable) Bae Kang Hee had better watch out. Her coveted top spot in the musical world is about to be challenged! LOL
5. The short scene in which all the finalists are waiting for the results and Eun Bi has her head stuck between two plush theater seats. (definitely a Kodak moment)
6. This last one isn't a Eun Bi or Jae Hee moment but rather a Bae Kang Hee one. The last scene when she turns, tears up her score sheet and then declares that if the scores are tied between Ko Eun Bi and the other finalist, then her answer is...and then the episode ends on that note. I love how Ok Ju Hyun's charismatic character adds a palpable level of conflict, grudging acknowledgment of Eun Bi's skills and fairness, etc. without sacrificing her role as the antagonist. She's doing a fabulous job of presenting a conflicted and dynamic character in Bae Kang Hee. I especially appreciated the glances she threw Hong Jae Hee's way during the audition to gauge his reaction.
Overall, this series is getting better and better with each episode. I wasn't so sure when it first started, but with each subsequent episode, I'm liking it more and more. Check it out! I just wish more people in Korea would give it a shot. That's all for today...I'll write again probably Sunday night with the recap of A Thousand Kisses Episode 11. Until then, have a blessed weekend!

Enjoy...for those of you who can't understand Korea, here's a quick recap of the teaser:
1. Woo Jin's mom asks Joo Mi if she has a sister. Joo Mi replies that her sister's name is Joo Young. At this the mother reels in shock and pain...I get the feeling that she's going to be rethinking the Woo Jin-Joo Mi marriage. :(
2. Joo Young and Joo Mi speak about their biological mother and how she abandoned them
3. Yoon Hee continues in her campaign to be accepted by Tae Kyung's mother as the potential new daughter-in-law.
4. Woo Bin confesses his feelings for Joo Young, asking her to meet him as a potential man for her. She tells him that she can't continue to meet him then and tries to leave.

Thoughts on A Thousand Kisses and High Kick Episode 3

Just felt like jotting down a few random thoughts after a long day of work. Seriously, sometimes I think keeping my figurative fingers dipped in Korean dramas is what keeps me sane...although they are also the reason why I am stressed for time sometimes...ah, my double-edged sword. :P

Anyhow, it seems as though High Kick 3 Episode 3 did not air today--possibly preempted by something in Korea--so I'll look for it tomorrow and post the episode then.

As for A Thousand Kisses, I hope you guys are loving it as much as I am. I can't seem to get over how adorable Woo Jin and Joo Mi are together. OK, I'll concede that Woo Bin and Joo Young are cute, too. I usually look forward to the weekends, but this series makes me anticipate Saturday and Sunday all the more. :)

As a rule, I tend to stay away from heavy melodramas with convoluted plots and people backstabbing each other; I dislike angst and drama in my life and really dislike seeing it on dramas. Why? Because dramas are my escape from reality to what I like to call my Happy Place. Hence, I keep my distance from highly popular yet angst-driven long dramas like Smile, Dong Hae even though my family members watched it every night while it was on the air.

With Saturday approaching in just a few days, I'm anticipating yet another solid and entertaining episode and ultimately keeping my fingers crossed that A Thousand Kisses remains a joy to watch despite the looming conflict of having to deal with Joo Mi's biological mother who is now Woo Jin's stepmother...reminds me of a plot twist worthy of Charles Dickens. I don't know how the writers are going to resolve this tangle, especially since it seems as though Joo Mi's grandmother still harbors bitter (or are they simply conflicted) feelings about her former daughter-in-law. (On a side note, I think it's a testament to the actress' acting abilities that she can play two radically different roles simultaneously--one as Woo Jin's demure and long-suffering/patient stepmother in this series and the other as Moo Won's outrageously hilarious and ambitious mother in Protect the Boss.) Despite my hopes of Woo Jin and Joo Mi's marriage happening without any bumps, I can only wait and hope that the grandmother or the chairman doesn't throw a wrench in their relationship. Just trying to think of the relationships post-marriage is enough for a headache. What would Joo Mi call her biological mother who also happens to double as her stepmother-in-law? Also, how much more complicated will the relationships be once Woo Bin and Joo Young's relationship get added to this mix? Oy~

Anyhow, enough of my ramblings. The clock's about to strike midnight, and this little Twinkie needs to go to sleep. G'night, everyone!

A Thousand Kisses Episode 10 Recap and Link

Episode 10: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/41008/5

Recap:
Seated next to Joo Mi on his parents' couch, Woo Jin apologizes and tells them that he never intended to deceive his parents. It’s just that when he was on the blind date, he lied to get out of the meeting and never imagined his father would hear about it. The father then asks if matters would have ended there if the father hadn’t insisted Woo Jin bring Joo Mi home. Hearing confirmation from Woo Jin that yes, matters wouldn't have progressed beyond the lie during the blind date, the chairman (Woo Jin's father) tells Joo Mi that she can go home. However, before she can leave, Woo Jin surprises everyone by declaring that his thoughts on marriage have changed. If Joo Mi is willing, he’d like to marry her. Joo Mi stammers that she hasn’t even thought about marriage. Woo Jin gently tells her she can start thinking about it now. (LOL. He's so one-tracked minded) At Woo Jin’s unexpected announcement, his father asks what changed his mind. Woo Jin replies that his stepmother’s comment did. She had told him that it isn’t that the father doesn’t have love but that the father is a bit awkward at expressing his love. The father accepts his explanation, stating that although he finds their recent actions deplorable, he welcomes Woo Jin’s change of heart. He then asks Joo Mi what she thinks. Although they’ve only met a few times, he had found her to be a good person but as Woo Jin’s girlfiend and not as a future wife who will be part of his family. He asks her to think seriously about the relationship and her decision.

As they walk out of the house, Joo Mi turns on Woo Jin in frustration and asks if he’s joking. Woo Jin asks if she thought that he was joking. He had explained everything back inside the house and was serious about marriage. They go to a cafĂ© to discuss things and Joo Mi says that like other women, she harbors romantic notions of marriage and wedding proposals, desiring a man who loves her so much that he can stand on top of a building and shout to the world that he loves his woman, sing love songs to her and such. She tells him that she has no intentions of marrying a cold Ice Man. With that parting comment, she walks out of the cafĂ©, leaving Woo Jin stunned by her rejection. (Sigh, how like him to not even contemplate that she might refuse his proposal) Walking the streets of Seoul, she reflects upon her various encounters with Woo Jin and struggle to sort through her feelings.

Back at Woo Jin’s house, the father is baffled at how his son could categorically announcement marriage plans without even consulting the girl. He doesn’t know if Woo Jin’s serious. He asks his wife her thoughts, and she replies that Woo Jin probably announced marriage plans because he assumed Joo Mi would agree. Even from her perspective, the mother thought that Joo Mi liked Woo Jin. When Woo Jin returns, the father asks how he could have simply announced intentions to marry without even consulting Joo Mi. Woo Jin replies that he never thought he’d get rejected. As they discuss matters, Soo Ah comes downstairs and declares that she opposes this marriage. She’s disappointed that a woman with such an angelic face can lie so well. When Woo Jin tries to put her in her place for insulting Joo Mi, the mother tells him that Soo Ah’s anger and disappointment is as strong as it is because she had liked Joo Mi so much and feels the betrayal that much more. The father then asks after Joo Mi’s family circumstances.

At Woo Bin’s office, he snaps a photo of his assistant’s shoes and texts Joo Young the photo, writing that all he sees these days are women’s shoes (aw…so sweet). He then takes his employees to the same restaurant he and Joo Young went to and orders dinner with a take out order for Joo Young. When his employees ask him if he’s taking an order for home, Woo Bin answers yes and doesn’t explain that it’s really for Joo Young.

Joo Young works at home and then gets a call from Joo Mi asking her to come outside and talk with her if she has time, Once at a local cafĂ©, Joo Mi explains to Joo Young that her Ice Man has proposed to her. Although she know that Joo Young’s had a hard time with marriage, Joo Mi asks her what her thoughts are. After all, she’s never thought of marriage to him. Joo Young laughs and says that she can start now. Listing all the things that Joo Mi did for him, Joo Young points out that Joo Mi likes him...What’s the problem? Joo Mi still protests that even though she likes him, she’s never thought about marriage. Joo Young laughs and says that she can start thinking about it now.

As they walk back home, Joo Young get a phone call from Woo Bin, who asks her how her work is coming along and whether the photo he sent her was helpful. He then tells her that he’s calling because he had business with Olive lady. (LOL…cute how he’s Popeye and she’s Olive. How does Joo Young not see his interest at this reference?) Joo Young mentions that she can see him and he wonders where she can be right now to see him and then belatedly notices her walking up the hill to her house with her sister. He pulls out the take out and tells her that he brought some potato beef stew for her and her family. As Woo Bin drives away, Joo Mi teases her sister and says that she really thinks Woo Bin’s interested in her. His actions go beyond that of just a good neighbor helping out a poor neighbor. Joo Young reminds her that she’s definitely a divorced woman with child. Once inside, the family sit down to happily eat their potato beef stew and chat.

At Tae Kyung’s house, the mom and Tae Kyung try to convince Yoon Hee to go to the hospital or back to her house because her being at his house solves nothing. Yoon Hee fakes still being asleep. However, in the middle of the night, as she’s sleeping next to the mother (the irony), she wakes up because she’s so hungry. She stealthily tiptoes out to the kitchen to have a late night meal (gotta love the music during this scene!). She quietly fixes herself bibimbap (Korean meal of side dishes mixed with rice and chilli sauce).

The next morning, the mother wakes up and panics when Yoon Hee’s bedsheets are neatly folded and Yoon Hee’s nowhere in sight. She hurriedly rushes to Tae Kyung’s room to see if Yoon Hee’s snuck in there. Relieved that she’s not there, she’s nevertheless surprised when Yoon Hee greets her in the living room and shows her the breakfast table she’s prepared. Promising that she’ll do her best, Yoon Hee gives the mother a back hug when the mother relents just a little bit.

Meanwhile, at Joo Mi's house, the family sit around the breakfast table. As they eat, Joo Mi suddenly asks her grandmother if she can get married. At the stunned looks on both grandmothers' faces, Joo Mi comments worriedly that she must have really surprised her grandmother. Grandmother reassures her that of course she can get married if there’s a wonderful man for her. When the aunt-grandmother comments that Joo Mi’s still young, Joo Young reminds them that she was Joo Mi’s age, 26, when she got married. They then tell her to bring the guy for a visit.

At Woo Bin’s house, Hye Bin lies in wait outside the house to ask her father for money. The father tells her that she’s going to have to deal with her mother for the release of her credit cards. In the meantime, he hands her some money and tells her to think about what she wants to do. If he were in her shoes, he’d have so many things he’d want to do. (Oy~this older sister's laziness and lack of direction is killing me softly)

Joo Young meets with her shoe designer friend and seeks her opinion on some sketches she's drawn. The friend encourages her with the assessment that she hasn't lost her touch; however, she had better prepare better designs for the contest. Joo Young, encouraged, tells her that she plans on working even harder. Walking outside, she calls Woo Bin. When he receives her call, Woo Bin does a double take and savors the moment. Answering the phone finally, he then tells her that this is the first time she’s called him. (LOL) He agrees to meet her immediately and then tells his employees that from this moment forward, he’s not on the clock and to deal with his afternoon tasks themselves.

Meeting Joo Young, he looks a bit disappointed when she thanks him for the food the other night. He asks if that’s why she’s buying him tea, to thank him for the potato beef stew. She gives him a disgruntled look and then also asks if she’s developed a reputation for not keeping her promises. She tells him that she came to show him something and hands him her drawings. He's impressed with her skill.

Meanwhile, as Joo Mi walks into the magazine office, the office workers there gush over photos of Woo Jin from the resort interview. They ask her if he’s as wonderful and handsome in person as in his photos. But before the surprised Joo Mi can reply, she receives a call from Woo Jin.

She meets him at a cafĂ©, and he asks why she’s not giving him an answer yet. He asks if she’s even thought about it. He admits that he knows he’s always been selfish and that he knows how she must be feeling right now. When she asks if he really knows, he comments that the fact that he’s changed his mind about marriage is a huge thing. When she starts to speak, he interrupts her and says that he knows she expected roses and songs.  Joo Mi says that she doesn’t want to marry without hope and dreams. He counters that he has a difficult time saying he loves her, but won’t his promise to live his entire life looking at only her suffice (Aw…). She plainly says no. He should be able to sing her a song at least. (Dang, what a way to get a man in line). He looks stricken with panic.

Holding a mic in a karaoke room, Woo Jin woodenly starts to sing a song kids learn in school (love how his eyes are all wide and he mops the perspiration off his face with his handkerchief end he finishes). She laughs and enjoys his efforts. As soon as the song is over, Woo Jin awkwardly turns off the mic and rushes to her side, asking if she’s decided. She asks him if he’s never seen Park Shin Yang’s “Can I Love You” (from the drama Paris Lover) or another actor singing “Neverending Story.” He sits down and says he’s never seen either, but if they marry, he’ll learn them and promises to sing them to her. He urges her to marry him. She then takes her time, gauging his reaction and face, and tells him that her answer is a yes. At this, both of them break into wide smiles. (aw…I appreciate how she weighs her words as if she's promising herself to this man for the rest of her life)

Woo Jin goes to see his father at the main office and tells him that Joo Mi’s accepted his proposal in marriage. His uncle (Woo Bin’s father) is there and congratulates him, excited that the man who refused to ever marry is now getting married. Woo Jin cautions, though, that he hasn’t received permission from her family yet. The father replies that the case is the same for him and that they should make plans to look into her family and arrange a meeting.

As Woo Bin’s dad returns home and tells him wife the news, she shows surprise that Woo Jin’s father is allowing a marragie to a woman with no parents. At this Woo Bin’s dad counters that her comment's ridiculous. Does she mean that people without parents can’t get married? (Hurray for Woo Bin's father for speaking sense...I can't stand how this mentality is still prevalent in Korean society)

Returning home, Joo Mi sees Chan Ho, her nephew, and Joo Young and shares with her sister the news that she’s decided to accept Woo Jin's proposal. Joo Young genuinely congratulates her and tells her that she's so happy for her. Although Joo Mi’s friends may say that Woo Jin’s cold, not a catch, etc., she thinks Woo Jin is a good man. Joo Mi admits that although he can’t confess his love for her right now, he did promise to live his live looking only at her (meaning that he’ll be faithful and think of her only).

The next day, Woo Jin comes to Joo Mi’s house to meet the grandmothers. Joo Mi’s grandmother expresses some concern that they come from such different backgrounds and wonders if his parents are all right with Joo Mi's situation. Woo Jin reassures her that they know that she no longer has any parents. She then asks how long he’s known her and that she thinks he should take some time to get to know her better before they really discuss marriage. What attracted him to her, she wonders. He answers that it was her personality—bright and kind. The aunt-grandmother teases Joo Mi and asks if she’s really kind. Joo Mi cheekily answers that she is. (cute scene)

After the visit with her family, Joo Mi walks him out to his car. He asks if she thinks her family approved. She reassures him that they did. Then he thanks her for leaving the "Ice" out of ahjussi (Korean word for man that younger people use) when she calls him and drives away.

Inside, the aunt-grandmother is thrilled that Joo Mi will be marrying into a rich and powerful family. However, Joo Mi’s grandmother is concerned that their backgrounds are so different and that they’ve only known each other such a short time.

Woo Jin returns home and tells his parents that he’s received approval, although the grandmother asked that he reconsider his marriage proposal until he knows Joo Mi better. The father wonders if she disapproves then, and Woo Jin assures him that it’s more that she’s concerned about their different backgrounds and want them to take some more time to consider all aspects of their union. The father comments that the grandmother seems wise and that Woo Jin should make plans for the elders to meet each other in preparation for the marriage.

Tae Kyung is parked outside his apartment complex and calls his mother to ask if Yoon Hee is still there. His mother answers that she is. At this unwelcomed news, he wishes her a good night then, hangs up, and drives away to see Chan Ho. He picks him up and promises Joo Young that he’ll be back soon with their son; he just came by to see him because he missed him so much.

Joo Young talks with her grandmothers.

Seated at an ice cream parlor, Chan Ho and Tae Kyung talk about soccer while they eat ice cream. Tae Kyung cheers/encourages Chan Ho on in his dream to become a first-class soccer player like Park Ji Sung while Chan Ho returns the cheers/encouragements for his dad since the dad has to live without Joo Young or Chan Ho. Tae Kyung then drives his son home and share a poignant moment together, Tae Kyung reflecting inwardly on how much he’s messed up his life when he had such a beautiful wife and son.

The next morning, Joo Young looks over her various shoe designs and selects her contest submission. She then goes to the company to submit her application. She calls her shoe designer friend to update her and reassures her not to worry that she can’t meet her if she’s so busy. She’ll just meet her at a later time. Joo Young then texts Woo Bin and tells him that she was able to submit the application thanks to him. When he calls her, she asks why he’s calling when she’s said everything she wanted to in the text message. He claims that she may have had her say but that he hasn’t. He then tells her that since she bought him something cheap like potato beef stew, she should buy him a meal again. She teases that since she bought him a meal previously, it should be all right to buy him a second meal that’s cheap since it’ll be the equivalent of buying him one expensive meal . (LOL…love how she’s slowly starting to joke around with him). In the midst of their conversation, though, a motorcyclist sideswipes her and she falls down to the ground, knocked unconscious. Woo Bin panicks and yells into the phone if she’s all right.

Worried out of his mind, Woo Bin then calls all the hospitals he can think of to find out if she’s been admitted into their Emergency Room. When he finally gets through to her cell phone, he asks the woman what’s happened to Joo Young...isn't this Woo Joo Young's cell phone. He demands to know what hospital she’s at when the nurse answers that Joo Young’ s unavailable to talk because she’s under examination right now. He rushes out of his office, barely answering his employee’s question that she’s in the hospital. In his hurry, he doesn’t even bother to elaborate on which hospital she’s at.

As he runs into the hospital (love how they show his state of mind by having him get delayed by the glass sliding doors), he finally finds her bed and belongs in the Emergency Room. When he spots her walking slowly toward the bed, hooked up to an IV drip, he yells her name and runs to engulf her in a hug. The episode ends with her looking surprised to see him there, much less having him hug her so tightly.

(Whew~done! Enjoy!)

A Thousand Kisses Episode 9 Recap and Link

Episode 9: http://joonmedia.tv/videos/play/40977/11

Recap of Episode 9: (It's been a while since I've done a recap, so the summary is a bit choppy...oh well, hope you enjoy!)
Woo Bin returns to his office to find his ex-girlfriend (Yoo Kyung) waiting for him. He asks why she’s here, and she lightly scolds him for his coldness and says that she wanted to see where he works. He takes her outside to discuss things in private. She apologizes for what happened four years ago, explaining that she had already resolved matters but the man hadn’t and what Woo Bin walked into was a misunderstanding. Then as she continues to try to find out what’s new with him, Woo Bin basically tells her he’s not interested and that they have nothing to do with each other. However, Yoo Kyung gives him a look that indicates she’s not going to accept his rejection so easily and instead keep pursing him.

At Joo Young’s house, Joo Young looks over the Shoes Holic contest flyer. As she and her grandmother share a snack, Joo Young tells the grandmother that she’s planning on reentering the shoe fashion industry. The grandmother expresses her concerns and tells her that Joo-Young doesn’t have to work since grandmother won’t let her starve. However, Joo-Young cheerfully tells her that she wants to work, to which the grandmother gives Joo Young her blessings to try hard then.

At Woo Bin’s house, his sister (Hye Bin) and mother talk about how the mother is overdressed for a simple family dinner at Woo Jin’s house simply for the purpose of intimidating Woo Jin’s stepmother. During their conversation, though, Hye Bin gets a call from Yoo Kyung asking her to drink with her. However, Hye Bin declines, telling her that the whole family has a dinner to attend.

At Woo Jin’s house, Woo Bin and Woo Jin’s dad talk briefly about Woo Bin’s business when Woo Bin arrives a bit early for dinner.

Back at Joo Young’s house, the girls and the grandmother talk about their trip to the resort and how the grandmother-aunt wants to go to the resort again to see the autumn foliage.

Finally seated for dinner at Woo Jin’s house, the two Jang families catch up with each other. One of the cute things they talk about is how Woo Bin and his sister don’t have significant others yet, and when talk naturally moves to Woo Jin’s girlfriend, Soo Ah chimes in that her brother’s girlfriend is adorable/pretty.

The next day, Woo Jin leaves for his new post at the resort and comes across Joo Mi working/goofing off on the golf lawns with her colleague photographer. He discovers that they’re there to interview him for an article on his resort. He invites them to his office, and as he answers her questions and continues to be his unknowingly arrogant self, he steals quick glances at the photographer. (Yup, he’s definitely demonstrating the beginnings of jealousy. LOL)

Meanwhile, Joo Young takes a walk at her grandmother’s suggestion to cool her head and gain a new perspective on her drawings. After such a long time away from designing, she confesses to her grandmother that her hands don’t feel like her own and that the drawings aren’t going as well as she’d hoped. As she slowly strolls through a local park, Woo Bin calls and asks what he can do to help her. Without any thought, she jokes that he can give her ideas. As soon as they hang up, Woo Bin leaves his office, pushing some important work on his associates, to take pictures of shoes for her. He snaps pictures of shoes on store displays, women passing in the streets, etc.

When Joo Young returns home to continue with her work, Woo Bin calls her to come outside. She meets him and teases him, saying that she needed ideas, not Popeye man himself. He quickly silences her when he shows her his camera with all these various shots of shoes. At her exclamation of surprise and pleasure, he hands her a CD copy of the photos and then lightly demands that she buy him dinner for his help.

At the resort, Woo Jin starts to leave the hotel in his company-chauffeured car but quickly asks his driver to stop the car when he sees Joo Mi joking around with her photographer colleague again, this time on her way to the parking lot. Stepping out of his car, he calls out to her and asks if she’s done for the day because if so, she can ride up to Seoul with him. She politely declines since she drove down with her photographer. Unfazed, Woo Jin insists. When she turns to her photographer (her sunbae, aka senior associate) for permission, Woo Jin looks particularly irked that she’s asking another man for permission (LOL). As they drive toward Seoul, Woo Jin asks her what her relationship is with the photographer. She replies that they’re business colleagues (interviewer and photographer). At this simply answer, he pointedly asks if business colleagues go around giving head locks to each other. “Are you a wrestler?” he chides. He tells her that he was embarrassed by their behavior. Not realizing that he says this out of jealousy, Joo Mi falls silent. In the ensuing awkward silence, she remembers her gift to his father and asks him if he was able to give the chairman her gift yet. He answers that he’ll be giving it to him tonight.

At a local restaurant, Woo Bin and Joo Young get ready to eat some potato beef stew. Woo Bin asks her how much the prize to the contest is. He’s surprised at her answer: a trophy and 3,000,000 won (roughly $3,000). He had thought it would be worth more for her to work so hard. She, however, tells him that she’s not really interested in the prize but rather the opportunity to work at the company. When he asks if she really has to work, she brightly answers “of course.” She wants to work. He then wishes her luck and tells her that she’ll be quite surprised when she sees the CD.

Meanwhile at her ex-husband’s house, Tae Kyung (the pathetic ex-husband) crawls back into the apartment and begs his mother to take him back. He whines that even if the entire world throws rocks at him, she should support him. As they squabble, Yang Joon Hee unexpectedly comes and tells them that she’s pregnant. He denies any possibility of that and tells her to go to the hospital for confirmation. Joon Hee answers that she suspected he would react this way and already prepared a photo of her ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy. When they coldly accuse her of lying, she falls to her knees and says that her only sin was for falling in love with a married man. (O-M-G) When the mother continues to treat her with coldness, Joon Hee tells her that she understands and will have the baby aborted. Giving Tae Kyung one last disappointed look, she stalks out of the apartment and climbs into her car with a vengeful resolution to win him over no matter what. However, when she spots him coming after her, she quickly slumps over the steering wheel and pretends to cry. He gently escorts her out of her car and takes her for private conversation by the Han River, claiming that she’s in no condition to drive right now. Once at the river bank, he confesses that he has a difficult time believing her but that there’s nothing he can do regardless of whether she’s telling the truth or not. After all, although he’s divorced, he’s still living--albeit barely--with the hope that his ex-wife will forgive him and return. Joon Hee retaliates by saying that a person like her doesn’t deserve to live then and walks into the river. At first, he doesn’t believe her but quickly drags her out of the river when he realizes she’s “serious.” Both of them burst into tears by the river bank.

Tae Kyung returns home in drenched clothes and tells his mother that Joon Hee tried to kill herself. Both of them cry as they realize the import of this new development.

Meanwhile, Woo Bin and Joo Young spend a fun evening shooting hoops at a local arcade after dinner. Woo Bin drives her home, and she thanks him for his hard work in making her the CD. She had only mentioned in passing that he could help her by giving her ideas, but she never expected such a wonderful gift. He replies that he’s Popeye. Telling her to definitely win the contest, he drives back home.

Once inside the house, Joo Young wishes her grandmothers a good night and then takes a look at the CD, excited by the variety of shoes he's captured on film. Joo Mi comes in with a late night drink for her sister and is equally amazed by the effort evident on the CD. She wonders if Woo Bin likes Joo Young. Joo Young scoffs at the idea and reminds Joo Mi that her older sister is a recently divorced mother with a son. No single man in his right mind would be interested in her; he’s only helping out an unfortunate neighbor. Despite Joo Young's denial, Joo Mi remains skeptical.

As Woo Bin settles in for the night, his sister comes into his bedroom to tell him that Yoo Kyung called the other night asking her to be a drinking partner/friend. He gets frustrated and tells her that he’s not interested in hearing anything about Yoo Kyung; he can’t do anything about who his sister wants to befriend, but he doesn’t have to hear anything about his ex-girlfriend from her.

The next morning, as Woo Jin leaves for work, he hands his stepmother Joo Mi’s gift and asks her to relay the gift to his father for him since he has to leave early. He refuses the health drink she made him, much to her dismay, and gets into the car. (He has his own driver! Nice perk~talk about moving up the corporate ladder!)

As her brother leaves for work, Soo Ah wheels her father to the breakfast table and brightly keeps up the lively chat. She offers to open the gift for her father, and the whole family comments on how the workout gloves are an appropriate and thoughtful gift. After reading Joo Mi’s thank-you card, the father wonders why she didn’t mention anything about her parents.

Later that day, as Joo Young leaves her cooking class, she is flagged down by Woo Bin who insists that he’ll give her a ride since her house is on his way. In the process, Yoo Kyung sees Woo Bin ushering Joo Young into his car. (Talk about a stalker! She shows up again at his building after he has asked her to stop visiting him.)

Irked, Yoo Kyung meets up with Woo Bin’s sister, whom she’s apparently called out suddenly on the pretext of wanting to watch a movie together. She then slyly asks if Woo Bin has a girlfriend and that she saw a woman with him in front of his office. The sister gently scolds her for visiting Woo Bin's office when she knows Woo Bin doesn’t like her doing that. Undeterred, Yoo Kyung insists that Woo Bin was warm towards the woman, and he’s not that warm to any woman. Intrigued herself now, Hey Bin immediately calls Woo Bin and asks who the woman seated next to him is. Surprised, he asks if she’s installed CCTV cameras in his car. (LOL love their brother-sister relationship!) At her “ridiculous” question of whether he’s dating Joo-Young, Woo Bin simply states that yes, he’s dating her and hangs up. Meanwhile, having overhead the phone conversation, Joo Young looks suspiciously around his car, and Woo Bin laughingly reassures her that there are no CCTVs and that he was just joking with his sister. Hanging up the phone, Hye Bin reports to Yoo Kyung that Woo Bin says he’s dating her, but because of the way he said it, she knows her brother—he’s not dating her, which gives Yoo Kyung hope. (ugh...I really don’t like that woman...and as a character, she doesn't make much sense. Realistically speaking, how many ex-girlfriends come seeking a man after four years when the breakup was her fault?)

Joon Hee parks her car in front of Tae Kyung’s apartment and barges into the apartment with her suitcases. She states to Tae Kyung’s mother her intention to move in since they won’t let her abort the baby or kill herself. When the mother still refuses to let her settle into the apartment, Joon-Hee pretends to be in pain and collapses. Panicked, the mother asks her where is hurts and asks if they should go to the hospital.

Woo Bin escorts his soccer player’s mother and father for a birthday dinner but completely surprises the couple with the extent of his surprise birthday celebration preparations. He even arranges a webcam so that the parents can communicate with their soccer player son who’s currently away on training. The son promises to work hard and thanks Woo Bin (his sports marketing company president) for his kindness towards him and his parents.

At a hair salon, Soo Ah overhears Joo Mi’s friend talking on the phone with Joo Mi and stalks out of the hair salon in anger and betrayal. She rushes home and tells her parents that Woo Jin lied about his relationship with Joo Mi. As she rants and raves about how they’ve all been hoodwinked, the father calls Woo Jin’s office and leaves a message for Woo Jin to come home immediately after his meeting. He then calls Joo Mi, who thanks him for the resort certificate, and invites her to come to his house. Unwilling to believe this of Joo Mi and Woo Jin, the mother wonders if it’s true, and Soo Ah insists that she heard properly. Meanwhile, Joo Mi tries calling Woo Jin and then leaves a text message for him when he doesn’t answer. She texts a brief summary of her conversation with his father: “Your father called to thank me for the gift and to invite me to your house. Please come quickly and save me.” Woo Jin immediately calls home and speaks with his stepmother who reluctantly tells him that the father’s found out that he lied about Joo Mi and his relationship. As he rushes home, he thinks back upon all their encounters together (blind date help, jogging encounters, his request to help him one more time, visits to his house, his cold comment to his father not to invite her anymore since she’s not someone he plans to marry, and Joo Mi telling him brightly that he should go and apologize to his father.)

Inside Woo Jin’s house, Soo Ah wants to listen in on the conversation, but the father insists that she go upstairs. Joo Mi then arrives and thanks the father for his resort trip gift. Once the brief pleasantries are exchanged, without mincing words, the father calmly but sternly asks her if she’s really dating Woo Jin. In shock and embarrassment, she sincerely apologizes to the parents. (I'm glad that she's the type of person to truthfully answer when asked point blank, even if it's incredibly embarrassing for her.)The father asks her to explain from the beginning how things came about. Outside the house, Woo Jin is seen inside his parked car, reflecting on and trying to sort out his feelings for her. Back inside the house, Joo Mi starts to explain:
“I just thought that he was wonderful from the first moment I met him. But he was cruelly cold towards me, even accusing me of being a stalker. [voice-over as Woo Jin thinks back on some moments with Joo Mi: “Project 1 to make Jang Woo Jin smile. Project 2 to make Jang Woo Jin smile.”] And I never once saw him smile, so I thought it would be nice to make him smile because he looked so sad and alone. As for love, I haven’t thought that far ahead. I’m really sorry. I've behaved badly.”

At that moment, Woo Jin walks in and apologizes as well, saying that he never had intentions to deceive the parents. It’s just that when he was on the blind date, he lied to get out of the meeting and never imagined his father would hear about it. The father then asks if matters would have ended there if the father hadn’t insisted Woo Jin bring Joo Mi home. Hearing confirmation from Woo Jin that he never intended to deceive his father, the chairman tells Joo Mi that she can go home. However, before she even gets up to leave, Woo Jin surprises everyone by declaring that his thoughts have changed. If Joo Mi is willing, he’d like to marry her.
