Recap:
(The episode opens up with a quick video recap of the previous events and then picks up from the point when the judges are deliberating on the actresses.)
Kang Hee states that if the scores are tied, then her selection is…and then she rips up her score sheet for dramatic effect. (gotta love the prima donna! She definitely knows how to wield her power.)
As they wait, Bok Ja and Eun Bi discuss the situation with Bae Kang Hee and Hong Jae Lee, and Eun Bi tries to down play the situation. During their talk, they find out that a decision’s been reached as to who will get to double cast with Kang Hee. Yoo Jin comes out to the theater and congratulates Eun Bi on her selection, much to Eun Bi's surprise since she was impressed by her competitor's musical skill.
Meanwhile, the "runner up"/contender packs up and leaves but is waylaid by Kang Hee and a gift of a cup of coffee. As they talk, we find out that Kang Hee and she started in the business around the same time. The actress admits that although she may have sung the auction piece more skillfully, she admits that Eun Bi represented the role of Do Ah more accurately. She then tells Kang Hee that Eun Bi reminds her of Kang Hee when she first started out in the business. At the time, she had wondered how such a girl like Kang Hee, who couldn’t sing well, would ever make it in the business. Now, look how far Kang Hee's come and where she is, still auditioning for parts. They share a laugh over memories.
At the director's bar, the theater company celebrate Eun Bi’s selection.
Seated in front of the TV at Yoo Jin’s house, Jin and his fiancé discuss the audition interviews. Ra Kyung comments, much to Jin’s surprise and dismay, that Eun Bi’s interview was quite memorable. While others talked about how exciting it might be to be part of the musical or other such comments, Eun Bi spoke solely of the role, expounding upon her thoughts of the character.
Walking back home from the celebration, Jae Hee dotingly tells Eun Bi that no matter how much he looks at her, he doesn’t seem to ever get bored. Eun Bi accuses Jae Hee of seeing her as some toy or hamster. Jae Hee clarifies and says not so much a hamster but perhaps a Maltese or a Chihuahua. (LOL) He then praises her for her performance on stage.
The next morning, Eun Bi goes on her usual milk delivery, making sure to write her daily personal note to Kang Hee and bowing in respect before heading to her next delivery stop on her bike. Sang Won brings in the milk and exclaims that whoever delivers the milk shows dedication. Kang Hee agrees and then feeds the milk to her cat. (How sad…Eun Bi probably thinks the milk is for Kang Hee) Sang Won then tells Kang Hee that he’s headed off to a workshop with the musical crew and is surprised when Kang Hee says that she’s going to be joining them, too, but will make separate travel arrangements.
On the bus ride down to the workshop, Bok Ja speculates as to Kang Hee’s reason for joining them. She explains how top stars like Kang Hee usually only show up after everything’s been set up instead of labor with the crew in the beginning stages.
Yoo Jin couple and Kang Hee couple ride down separately in a sedan and discuss how Kang Hee doesn’t usually attend these workshops. Kang Hee defends herself and says that she’s attended hundreds of these in the past.
Once at the hotel, the location of their workshop, a production member (someone who later displays interest in Ra Kyung) assigns everyone to their rooms. Jae Hee pays particular attention to Eun Bi’s room number. (OMG, this man is incorrigible! He's probably going to visit her regularly.)
Jae Hee tries to visit Eun Bi’s room with coffee (Yup, didn't take him long. LOL) but is rudely surprised when Kang Hee answers the door. Apparently, she came by to give Eun Bi some pointers and invites Jae Hee into the room, stating that she was craving coffee and hopefully he won’t mind if she has some of Eun Bi's.
Seated around the tea table while they drink their coffees, Kang Hee comments on how Jae Hee makes really good coffee. When Eun Bi admits that she’s not really a connoisseur of coffee, Kang Hee tells her that’s a good thing and cautions her to not start anything that might become an addiction like coffee, alcohol, or tobacco. Those things can be disastrous to a female musical actress. Bok Ja adds that men can also be disastrous, but Kang Hee corrects her and pointedly says that love is actually helpful to an actress. She then asks Eun Bi to join her for some singing practice. Eun Bi is thrilled to be getting a private session with her idol/role model and jumps at the chance. As they leave—much to Jae Hee’s dismay again—Bok Ja laughs out loud and tells hims an analogy of who gets hurt when there are two sparring sides…the one in the middle, leaving the moderator to laugh out like as she’s doing now. (LOL Bok Ja's enjoying this way too much. LOL)
The musical company all meet in the auditorium for rehearsals with Jae Hee directing the vocal warm-ups. Kang Hee jumps in and partners with Eun Bi and coaches her. As the others look on, some begin to feel as though Kang Hee’s mean reputation is a misunderstanding when she’s so kind and considerate to Eun Bi. Bok Ja wonders if that’s really the case. She then points out how the husband (Sang Won) doesn’t seem so thrilled by Kang Hee’s actions. Seated in the auditorium viewing the scene unfold, Yoo Jin comments to Sang Won that it looks like they won’t have any conflicts with the cast and that Bae Kang Hee is truly a professional. Sang Won repeats with deeper meaning that she’s indeed a professional. (Dang, what an interesting relationship…to love a woman knowing all her undesirable traits as he does)
That night, the cast feast on BBQ and Kang Hee feeds Eun Bi and continues to shower concern her way. Jae Hee looks on in unease, wondering what Kang Hee’s up to.
Back at rehearsals, Eun Bi sings the female lead’s theme song as the rest of the cast listens enraptured by the performance. Jae Hee looks satisfied by her performance as it accurately portrays his image of Do Ah. However, Kang Hee speaks up and suggests that the opening can be sung a bit differently as well. Giving Jae Hee a knowing look, she then proceeds to sing the song a bit more forcefully, and the entire cast burst into applause. Jae Hee tries to stem Eun Bi’s willingness to follow Kang Hee’s interpretation by asking her about her own interpretation, which he prefers. However, Eun Bi, awestruck to be even in Kang Hee’s presence much less be sharing the same role with her and receiving instruction from her, quickly says that she likes Kang Hee’s interpretation better. (Foiled, Jae Hee! You have to be more direct with Eun Bi if you expect to penetrate through that idol worship of hers.)
Later that night as Eun Bi is asleep, Jae Hee texts her and berates her for listening so well to Kang Hee’s interpretation. Irritated, she texts back, “what’s wrong with listening to her advice?” Jae Hee then asks her to meet him outside. Grudgingly, she agrees and meets him outside the hallway where they both eventually crack a smile and head outside.
Once outside seated on a bench (love the view of the stairs), he plunks out a few notes on his cell phone app/program and scolds her for throwing away her interpretation so quickly. Eun Bi grabs his cell phone and plunks out a few notes herself and sings, “That’s not the case. Please go easy on me.” She then tells him how she saw Bae Kang Hee perform for the first day when she started medical school. Since that time, she’s always been moved by Kang Hee’s performances. And this great star, whom she’s idolized all this time, is helping her. She would have been content all her life simply to share a piece of the stage with her as a silent extra. But here she is double casted in the same role with her idol! Bae Kang Hee is synonymous with the word musical to her. Jae Hee, understanding Kang Hee’s huge presence in Eun Bi's mind, takes hold of Eun Bi’s hand and gingerly tries to explain that Kang Hee and Eun Bi are different. When Eun Bi agrees that she knows they are different, Jae Hee loses his temper with her and shouts that that’s not what he means. She thinks that she can’t compete with Kang Hee while he wants to tell her that she’s beyond Kang Hee. (Poor man can’t seem to convey his thoughts to Eun Bi properly. *sigh*) Startled by his outburst, Eun Bi disengages her hands from his and bids him good night. She then runs up the stairs back to the hotel to sleep. Jae Hee follows her back, deep in thought. Unobserved, Yoo Jin sees Eun Bi run back, Jae Hee slowly following, and Kang Hee watching them from her balcony above. Jae Hee spots Kang Hee taking in the scene as well; they make eye contact and then Kang Hee pointedly leaves the balcony and steps back into her room. Seeing this entire scene unfold and suspecting what this might portend, Yoo Jin then heads inside, not in the best of moods. (What a headache for him! He’s probably thinking that if they’re not careful, his multimillion dollar musical investment can go up in flames. One thing’s for sure: he’s intrigued by Eun Bi as evidenced by his putting down his phone unconsciously when he spots her….loving his reluctant attraction to her...heh heh)
The next morning, the entire cast jog around the hotel grounds like an army platoon. Meanwhile, the producers and director look over the contracts and finalize logistics to a 2.5 hours show and a 5.5 million dollar budget. Completely shocked by the scale of the production, the director swears to make this musical a success.
Meanwhile, Yoo Jin’s cousin and the shady producer meet over an expensive lunch to scheme about how to replace Yoo Jin as the musical fund manager. (With Yoo Jin on the seat, the producer can’t keep siphoning money from the fund and Yoo Jae can’t mismanage either)
The cast listen to Jae Hee’s score. As they clap and gasp at his genius, he tells them that this is just a sampling made quickly as a MIDI and that there will be a live orchestra accompanying them during the performances. The cast ooh and ahhh. As Jae Hee is about to walk out of the auditorium, Yoo Jin stops him and asks what he’s willing to stake for the sake of the musical’s success. Jae Hee asks for clarifies, and Yoo Jin specifies how so many people have put so many things on the line for this musical and expresses a wish that Jae Hee would take the musical more seriously rather than simply putting on a performance for the benefit of one person...meaning Eun Bi.
Ra Kyung interviews Kang Hee and concludes that Kang Hee’s last comment about how even the biggest stars are ultimately still at the whims of the directors and producers for a chance to bring their beloved characteres to life was particularly notable and poignant. Eun Bi agrees. Then when Ra Kyung suggests filming Eun Bi’s interview there as well, Kang Hee advises that Eun Bi be always filmed and interviewed in a prepared state; she explains that interviewers will typically write about things that were said “off the record” when the actors’ defenses/interview persona is gone and they speak freely. That’s how the news of her marriage got leaked out. Eun Bi takes in every bit of advice as pearls of wisdom.
Downstairs in one of the open lobbies, the cast and production staff prepare and fine-tune the storyline when Eun Bi walks in dressed in a skin-tight black miniskirt with make-up. Everyone hoots and hollers in appreciation of her transformation, the director claiming that she’s become Do Ah, the character. However, Jae Hee simply looks on, not pleased by what’s happening before his eyes.
Surrounded by the cast who express their surprise and appreciation of how different she looks with make-up, Eun Bi sits down for her interview and explains that Kang Hee told her to always get interviewed in a prepared state and that Kang Hee even directly applied the make-up for her. Ra Kyung adds that Kang Hee suggested this place as an interview spot. The director exclaims that Kang Hee is wonderful to be taking care of her junior so well like this. Meanwhile, Jae Hee takes in the scene from downstairs with growing concern.
He seeks out Kang Hee privately and asks her what her motives are for helping Eun Bi so much. She explains that she wants to take over Jae Hee’s role as teacher and in the process of spending time together, Eun Bi will gradually come to know how much Kang Hee cares for Jae Hee. As Jae Hee concurs that this will then in effect shorten his time with Eun Bi, Kang Hee sharply asks if he’s set this musical up merely to spend time the girl rather than to help her grow as a musical actress. When Jae Hee remains silent, Kang Hee emphatically declares that she will act the role and help make Eun Bi a star.
Meanwhile downstairs, Ra Kyung continues in her interview with Eun Bi, and Eun Bi explains how her grandmother was responsible for helping her not only enter medical school but give her the strength and courage to try to live out her dreams as a musical actress. With tears welling in her eyes, Eun Bi says that it was through her grandmother’s encouragement that she’s been able to get this far. As Eun Bi tells her poignant story, Yoo Jin comes upon the interview and views the scene cynically. While Ra Kyung is moved by Eun Bi’s tale, he isn’t and emotionlessly asks Ra Kyung if she’d like coffee and leaves to wait for her as she cleans up after the interview. Eun Bi chases after him to ask if he doesn’t like her. Yoo Jin masterfully twists words around so that Eun Bi leaves thinking that she’s imagined his dislike of her; after all, does he appear to be the type of person to like or dislike a person when doing business. Ra Kyung overhears part of their conversation and realizes that Yoo Jin has shown a part of himself to Eun Bi that he’s never shown to anyone else.
Once inside his hotel room, Yoo Jin loses himself in thought while Ra Kyung makes coffee. She mentions that Eun Bi is very much like his father, and that’s probably why he gets so angry with her and shows a side of himself that he usually keeps under control, even from her. Yoo Jin tells her she’s imagining things and draws the conversation to a close.
Outside, the cast engage in another group-bonding activity by jumping on a trampoline. Yoo Jin watches as Eun Bi jumps, reflecting on a childhood memory of his father, who took him waterskiing. Ra Kyung brings him coffee and asks what he was thinking because she’d been calling him for a while.
At the company headquarters, Yoo Jin’s grandfather and uncle take part in a executive meeting. At the uncle’s unwise suggestion that the company expand into China based solely on a "trusted" relationship with a contact in China, the grandfather embarrasses his son in front of the others, citing the folly of venturing into such a huge business expansion based on the trust of one person. The meeting concludes with the uncle being rebuked for not knowing and acting like a CEO who doesn’t know when to curtail his employee’s unwise suggestion and is instead blinded by his devotion to his incompetent son.
Later that night at the workshop, the cast continue to play and build group camaraderie. The game is simple but actually reflects the inner relationships among the group. As Kang Hee volunteers to be “it,” the producers and director get a bit uneasy as Kang Hee has a difficult time breaking her way into the circle, indicating that she’s an "outside," especially to Jae Hee who firmly blocks her entrance into the circle. Luckily, as Sang Won’s concern grows, Eun Bi weakens and lets her idol into the circle. However, when it’s Eun Bi’s turn, Kang Hee firmly stands her ground and keeps Eun Bi out, symbolic of her determination to alienate Eun Bi. Luckily before the intention is noticed by anyone else, Eun Bi breaks through via Bok Ja. As more hilarity and group bonding continue, Ra Kyung, who was filming the group, gets pushed and stumbles into the fire. The game master yells and runs to help her first while Yoo Jin stands up from his chair, momentarily frozen. The episode ends on Yoo Jin's frozen form.

Musings on Protect the Boss
With the airing of the last episode of Protect the Boss, bringing the much-beloved series to an end, I found myself laughing, sighing over its continued cuteness, and appreciating the character developments all the way to the end. *Sigh* The way the drama lightly poked fun at the usual conventions of Korean drama motifs and plot developments signified for me a masterful hand at storytelling. In short, I LOVED it! I treasured all the humor and poignant moments in the series.
But more than anything else, the series really shined when it developed its many relationship stories: father-son, grandmother-father, cousin-cousin, friend-friend, sister-in-law and brother-in-law rivalry, etc. Yes, the relationship between Noh Eun Seol and Cha Ji Heon was adorable and hilarious; for that matter, so was the Cha Mu Won and Yoon Na Hee story. However, the side stories of friendship and cousinship are what had me returning episode after episode to once again immerse myself in the world of Protect the Boss. To be able to see on screen the slow but definite transformations of each of the characters and also of their troubled relationships was sheer pleasure.
As great as the storytelling may have been, though, the subtle and oftentimes not-so-subtle acting of the characters Cha Ji Heon (Ji Sung) and Cha Bong Man really stood out for me. Without those two experienced actors, the story wouldn't have been as compelling. For instance, when Ji Heon has a serious conversation with his father outside their yard about Noh Eun Seol and the dad fakes chest pains, I laughed out loud as Ji Heon hovered over his father in apparent concern, only to upturn the viewers' expectations by gently taking his father's hand away from the chest and chiding him not to fake chest pains. LOL. Superb comedic timing! The rich actings of those two, who can deftly do both drama and comedy, had me swinging among multiple ranges of emotions.
I've never seen a Ji Sung drama, mainly because he's been in mostly serious dramas, which I tend to avoid like the plague. However, the man knows how to do comedy! But it's not just straight-up comedy. He does it with a nuanced touch of drama that subtlely points to the human state. For instance, how many of you loved how as Ji Heon and Eun Seol are strolling down that picturesque lane of trees at the end, he's holding the umbrella more to her side to show his concern that she doesn't get wet in the rain? Ack! L-O-V-E-D little moments like that, many of which simply pass by as part of his ever-attentive care for his love.
*sigh*
So many things I could put down in words to chronicle my journey through this precious drama, but I'll conclude simply with these words: Thank you, Protect the Boss, for a wonderfully memorable few months of laughter, reflection, and sheer, unadulteration enjoyment in dramaland. You're the prototype of why I keep coming back for more Korean dramas. I shall miss you!

Musings for the Day...
I just got done recapping A Thousand Kisses Episode 12, and I must say, I'm liking the pace of the drama. The slow yet steady development of Woo Jin and Joo Mi's relationship is a joy to watch, especially as they start to bring out certain romantic and playful aspects of each other's personalities. For instance, Joo Mi's never made a doshirak for a man before and Woo Jin...well, let's just say that he's doing everything remotely associated with romance for the first time. And he's SMILING! LAUGHING!~
I know many of you, including myself, weren't that hooked on the Woo Bin/Joo Young couple storyline, but I've got to hand it to Ji Hyun Woo. He's doing a solid job of making Woo Bin appear likeable as he pursues Joo Young. As for the constant cold shoulder Joo Young's giving Woo Bin now that his feelings are known, I appreciate how she's realistic about their circumstances, thereby grounding their storyline. I didn't include this in the Episode 12 recap, but during the conversation at the park, she asks Woo Bin what his reaction would have been had she been the first one to confess. She astutely surmises that he would have run away from her as fast as he could. Needless to say, I'm curious to see how this relationship progresses, especially once Woo Bin's mother (the status-conscious woman who loathes anything and everything to do with Woo Jin's stepmother) finds out about her son loving a divorced single mother who also happens to be the older daughter of Woo Jin's stepmother.) Who knows when she'll find out, but this being dramaland, we know she'll eventually find out. The only question is how and who's going to be the one to spill the beans and open the proverbial Pandora's Box.
So much more I could post, but I'll stop here. On a side note, I plan to post links to Protoect the Boss (last two episodes this week) and keep updating my High Kick 3 episodes link post, so for those of you looking to watch the episodes, you'll know where to look. :) As for The Musical although recapping can be a bit time-consuming at times, I'm having so much fun providing you all with recaps that I've decided to recap my beloved The Musical. :) So keep up the hard work, staff of The Musical! Despite the low ratings, you have legions of fans enjoying your work! :)

1. Tae Kyung lies in wait for Joo Young at her house until Woo Bin drops her off. You hear Tae Kyung briefly entertain the suspicion that she might be dating again but quickly rejects the idea. He then shouts "Who were you holding hands with?!
2. Chan Ho has disappeared and Joo Young and Woo Bin search for him.
3. Yoo Kyung asks Woo Bin what his relationship is with Joo Young. He replies that she's the woman he loves (Love his directness!)
4. Grandmother's scolds Joo Mi(?) over the phone that she already told her she can't get married; why is she over there? However, in seems as though the wedding will happen after all since both sides of the family are seated at the wedding preparation dinner (Korean dinner in which the elders of both sides meet)
5. Joo Mi's mother thanks her ex-mother-in-law for giving her permission.
6. Tae Kyung returns home with the bouquet of flowers he didn't give to Joo Young. Yoon Hee sees it and thinks it's for her. Tae Kyung's mother's voice is heard in the background asking why he would bring Yoon Hee flowers.
7. Woo Bin meets Yoo Kyung, who's waiting for him at his house...yet again. (Dang, that woman needsd a reality check!) He asks her to please stay out of his life.

6. Tae Kyung returns home with the bouquet of flowers he didn't give to Joo Young. Yoon Hee sees it and thinks it's for her. Tae Kyung's mother's voice is heard in the background asking why he would bring Yoon Hee flowers.
7. Woo Bin meets Yoo Kyung, who's waiting for him at his house...yet again. (Dang, that woman needsd a reality check!) He asks her to please stay out of his life.

Recap: (note: to avoid confusion, I call Joo Young and Joo Mi's biological mom "Woo Jin's mother" and I just realized that Yoon Hee is actually Joon Hee...I miswrote her name in the previous recap...sorry.)
The episode opens with Woo Jin’s mother calling the grandmother and asking her for a meeting to discuss Joo Mi’s situation. Meanwhile, Joo Mi and Woo Jin visit the traditional Korean restaurant to plan Saturday's dinner. Joo Mi's surprised by the price ($350/person) but Woo Jin calmly tells her that they need to first try the meal to see if it's tasty. Joo Mi replies that at that price, she knows it's going to be tasty. (LOL) She tells him that she's afraid her lips will bloat because the meal is so expensive. He reassures her that her lips won't. (LOL so cute how he's starting to joke with her.)
Grandmother and mother meet, and the grandmother assumes that the mother doesn’t want the wedding to happen either. She’s surprised then when the mother asks her for permission for the wedding to happen. Although her husband knows about her past, since Joo Mi thinks of her as dead, she asks the grandmother to please give her permission to the wedding; nothing can be gained from objecting but giving the couple heartache. The grandmother refuses, saying that a mother cannot be a mother-in-law. With tears welling in her eyes, the mother begs that since she’s already dead to her girls for abandoning them, she doesn’t want to add to that sin by becoming a mother who's blocked her daughter’s marriage and chance at happiness. She then explains that since Woo Jin lost his mother at such a young age, she’s rarely seen him smile. Joo Mi’s changed all that, and she doesn’t want to take that away from him. The grandmother refuses to budge in her objection to this marriage and tells the mother that she’s going to object, citing the extreme differences in their family background as a reason.
Leaving the meeting with her ex-daughter-in-law, the grandmother visits her son’s grave and tells him that she can’t allow this marriage to happen after what his ex-wife’s done: break up the family when she had an affair with one of his students.
Woo Jin's mother walks back and recalls the conversation and the past. The grandmother had told her to leave the house and never look back after what she did to the family; never contact them!
Joo Young and Chan Ho shop, and Joo Young buys Chan Ho a skateboard (rip board?) because he begs her for one (ah, children and their begging...). As she watches him learn to skate, she receives a phone call from Woo Bin, which she promptly ignores. He then sends her a text message telling her to answer his call. She ignores that one, too. He sends another one telling her that she won’t be able to avoid him. (good thing he's a good guy, or I'd be screaming, "Stalker!" right about now.)
At Tae Kyung’s house, Joon Hee brings in a wedding dress and tells the mother that she and Tae Kyung will be getting married. The mother promptly gets upset, wondering if her son is that reckless and a cad.
Joo Mi comes home and excitedly tells her two grandmothers about the restaurant for Saturday’s dinner meeting.
Meanwhile, Woo Jin’s mother returns home to an angry husband, who’s upset that his wife came home so late without any word; she didn't even bother to call. Startled, she tells him that she lost track of time while looking at wedding gifts and meeting with a friend. (She looks so anxious...sigh...what a sad life she leads) Soo Ah comes down and plays mediator between her parents and mentions that she didn’t know her mother had any friends (how sad…the mother doesn’t have any friends...wonder if she lost them all when she had the affair and then as penance just never made any new ones). The mother goes into the kitchen to prepare dinner since her husband had refused to eat earlier without his wife.
Tae Kyung comes home for the evening and is surprised to see a wedding dress hanging in his room. He reminds Joon Hee that he’s still not officially divorced and even then, he refuses to marry her. Joon Hee says they will. When he stalks out of his bedroom, she mutters, "We'll see..." (scary woman...what can she possible be planning...anyone else thinks she's lying about the baby and trying to trap Tae Kyung in a speedy marriage before she's found out?)
Woo Bin texts Joo Young good night, a text message that she ignores once again. (Got to hand it to the guy, though...he's persistent)
The next morning, Joo Mi prepares a lunch for Woo Jin. She asks her grandmother to taste test the rice ball and give her some points, but the grandmother refuses. Joo Mi, oblivious to her grandmother’s mood, then brightly says that she will prepare the meal without any help so that she can claim she made it all by herself. She then tells the grandmother that she would have been in despair if Woo Jin’s father had objected to the marriage. She’s so happy right now. She hopes nothing takes her happiness away. At Joo Mi's words, the grandmother worries, knowing that she's going to have to take her granddaughter's happiness away soon.
Hye Bin calls a matchmaking company and then tells her mother that she’s decided to get married and get out of her mother’s hair. She just needs the money now. (LOL. I really don't know what to think about this irresponsible older sister...oh wait, I just did. LOL I-R-R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-L-E. I wonder who the writers are going to use as her love match...Woo Bin's older assoicate?)
At the shoe company, the staff gather around to judge the submissions.
On the grounds of KJResort, Woo Jin is seen jogging toward Joo Mi in his suit. He is pleasantly surprised with a homemade (doshirak) lunch from her. Looking at her skeptically (love how he’s learning to tease her), he asks if she didn’t buy this from the store. She insists that she made it. With a bit of an anticipatory look, he opens the case. Fishing for a compliment, Joo Mi asks, “Doesn’t it look pretty?” He replies, “What’s important is the taste.” As he tastes, Joo Mi concludes by his look that it’s tasty. When he asks if she really made it all by herself and without any help from grandmother, she utters a shocked "It must be that good." He tells her to eat, too, or he’ll eat it all himself. She tells him that’s all right; she can make more when she gets home. He then gently places her chopsticks in her hands, and they share a tender look. Joo Mi savors the moment (so cute how she holds onto her chopsticks) and doesn’t eat. Woo Jin, seeing this, feeds her a riceball. (Looks like Joo Mi’s dreams of romance are slowing becoming a reality with the “Ice” man. LOL) They then talk a bit more about possibly living by themselves once they marry and then Joo Mi feeds Woo Jin a riceball to which he’s pleased. (a first for both of them...)
Joo Mi returns home happy from her date but quickly panics when her grandmother tells her that the grandmother can’t accept this marriage on the pretext that their family backgrounds are too different. Joo Mi asks her grandmother to explain a bit more clearly so that she can understand. Woo Jin’s family isn’t one to care about a wedding dowry. The aunt-grandmother doesn’t know what’s going on and Joo Mi desperately tries to find a solution, suggesting that if Woo Jin’s parents are all right with her bringing no dowry, then it will be all right. The grandmother insists on objecting and Joo Mi goes into her room to cry.
Joo Young walks home from the grocery store to find Chan Ho and Woo Bin playing soccer at the local playground. (He’s a man, all right. LOL. When the woman ignores him, he goes to her.) Sending Chan Ho home so that she can speak with Woo Bin alone, she tells him to please leave her alone and not come by anymore. Woo Bin asks, “Do you really not like me? Don’t you know I’m a pretty good catch?” (heh heh) He then tells her that he’ll keep coming. (Persistence, baby! that's how my friend's husband got my friend to marry her, too!) At his stubbornness, she lists all the reasons why she doesn’t understand his interest, specifically leaving out her motherhood and divorced status since he claims those don't matter: she’s short, not that pretty, not smart, etc. He agrees, which deflates her a bit. (LOL) Then taking her grocery bag, he runs to her house and gives the bag to her grandmother. He then drives Joo Young somewhere, telling her that he's forcing her to spend time with him; otherwise, she won’t give him the time of day. He then takes her to a dance club and leads her onto the dance floor. He meets a friend there, and when the friend asks about Joo Young, he simply replies that he’s in the process of wooing. (LOL). When the music changes to a ballad, Joo Young leaves him on the dance floor. Instead of accepting the rejection, Woo Bin sees the chance for an unprepared event. He gets on the microphone and confesses to the clubbers that he apologizes for the interruption but that he’s grabbing this chance, an unplanned event, to try to convince the woman he loves that he loves her. She doesn’t seem to believe him. Announcing to her over the microphone that he thinks he’s become addicted to her, Woo Bin starts to sing and play his guitar.
Driving her home later that night, he asks if he sang well. At her silence, he wonders aloud what he should do next if she doesn’t like his singing. Joo Young says that she knows he’s a great guy, but she can’t go to him and that she won’t change her mind. Woo Bin retorts that he won’t change his mind either. He’s decided not to calculate and rationalize. He knows all her shortcomings but still likes her, so he’s decided to stop trying to make sense of his feelings.
Joo Young returns home to a crying Joo Mi. She comforts her and tells her to not cry when nothing’s been finalized. The grandmother will relent once she hears from the elders on Woo Jin’s side.
The next day, Joo Mi meets Woo Jin and tells him the situation with the grandmother. He tells her not to worry and that he’ll explain everything, especially since his father had told him to relay the message that they don’t need to prepare a dowry. (Isn't it adorable how Woo Jin doesn't like her crying?)
Meeting the grandmother, Woo Jin explains the situation. The grandmother still refuses, saying that that’s Woo Jin's side. She still doesn’t want them to marry, but if they are determined, perhaps they should take some more time to get to know each other better.
Outside Joo Mi's house, as Woo Jin gets ready to leave, he asks Joo Mi if her grandmother will really insist on objecting to this marriage to the very end. He’s confused since his family’s not that rich. He wonders if the grandmother would cease her objections if his father resigned from his chairman position, which is unrealistic. At his ridiculous mutterings, Joo Mi tells him to go home. A bit put out, he asks her if she wants him to leave so early. Surprised by his questions, she bashfully looks at him and says no. At her reply, he smiles. (Ha! Their romance is so sweet.)
Back home, Woo Jin explains the situation to his parents, but his father suspects that there is another reason other than their family background. (smart man. There's a reason why he's the chairman.) However, he agrees to postpone the marriage meeting.
As Woo Jin’s mother’s about to sleep, she gets a call from the grandmother to meet the next day. At the meeting, the grandmother tells her that she can’t allow this wedding to happen, so the mother needs to do her part and reveal all. This way, Joo Mi and Woo Jin will finally accept her objections. No biological mother can be a mother-in-law. The mother begs her to allow this marriage since she’s a dead person to her girls. The grandmother demands how she can think of the mother as dead, refusing to forget what she’s done to her son, a woman who drove a stake through his heart. The mother begs, saying that she was only Joo Young’s age when she made that mistake. She was young and reckless, not knowing what was really important. She’s lived the past 20 years or so regretting. The grandmother leaves, reiterating that she can never accept this marriage.
Back at home, Joo Young tries to convince her grandmother not to object to Woo Jin; she thinks he’s a good guy and that she hopes her failed marriage doesn’t affect the grandmother’s stance regarding Joo Mi’s wedding. As they talk, Tae Kyung unexpectedly comes to visit with a wedding preparation gift for the grandmother. When Joo Young asked how he heard, he mentions that the aunt-grandmother came up. Not wanting to spend any more time with him than necessary, Joo Young shows him to the door.
The two grandmothers and Joo Young fix some side dishes in the kitchen when Joo Young gets a phone call from the shoe company telling her that she’s won the grand prize. The family celebrates.
At around the same time, Woo Bin is at his office, pouring over the results to the shoe contest. Abruptly getting out of his seat, he lifts his hands up in the air and announce “Grand prize! Grand prize!” (So cute! I know I love Woo Jin and Joo Mi couple, but Woo Bin’s slowly starting to worm his way into my heart with his cuteness towards Joo Young) Surprise, his employees ask what’s the grand prize. However without answering, Woo Bin tells his associate to take care of the afternoon schedules and leaves for the day.
After confirming that she’s the winner of the grand prize, Joo Young sits down for the awards ceremony. Meanwhile, Woo Bin grabs a bouquet of flowers and drives to the ceremony. Running into the building, (gotta love the way he takes the stairs 3 or 4 steps at a time…dang! The man has long legs!) he congratulates Joo Young with flowers and a bear hug, saying softly in her ears that he shouldn’t lose an opportunity. (LOL) Yoo Kyung, thinking that he’s there with flowers for her, is rudely surprised when Woo Bin congratulates, hugs, and drags Joo Young out. She’s so surprised and baffled that she follows them all the way to the elevator. (Is it just me, or is her character that unbelievable?)
Outside, Woo Bin ushers a reluctant Joo Young into his car while Tae Kyung, arriving late to congratulate his ex-wife with flowers, sees them leave in Woo Bin’s car. The episode ends with a frozen shot of his shocked face.

After confirming that she’s the winner of the grand prize, Joo Young sits down for the awards ceremony. Meanwhile, Woo Bin grabs a bouquet of flowers and drives to the ceremony. Running into the building, (gotta love the way he takes the stairs 3 or 4 steps at a time…dang! The man has long legs!) he congratulates Joo Young with flowers and a bear hug, saying softly in her ears that he shouldn’t lose an opportunity. (LOL) Yoo Kyung, thinking that he’s there with flowers for her, is rudely surprised when Woo Bin congratulates, hugs, and drags Joo Young out. She’s so surprised and baffled that she follows them all the way to the elevator. (Is it just me, or is her character that unbelievable?)
Outside, Woo Bin ushers a reluctant Joo Young into his car while Tae Kyung, arriving late to congratulate his ex-wife with flowers, sees them leave in Woo Bin’s car. The episode ends with a frozen shot of his shocked face.
